WHAT you’ll be doing
This opportunity at GHJ will be both to join GHJ as a partner in the tax practice and to help with the continued growth and success of the tax practice.  The role will support the enterprise-wide vision and strategic plan of GHJ. It is part of the firm’s commitment to build upon the existing talent pipeline in the tax practice to ensure we leverage the firm brand, relationships, and highly skilled talent. The Partner will be a thought leader, hands-on, and effective in an externally facing revenue generation business development role. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the GHJ team in executing on engagements and ensuring the highest quality and client experience.  

Your Location
This position is hybrid and eligible for remote work but is subject to the manager's discretion depending on the needs of the role to travel to the office or client sites. This role will require you to come onsite for an in-person New Hire Orientation, attend our Firmwide meeting twice a year and a department retreat once a year at the GHJ Los Angeles office.

You will be responsible for:

    • CLIENT SERVICE
    • Engagement leader on flow thru (partnership, S Corporation) and individual tax clients of the firm. 
    • Managing and delivering successful client-centric engagements that identify, and implement effective solutions. Recognized by clients as a strong business advisor.
    • Deploying a team approach to serving clients.
    • Developing strong connections with clients and understand their business and their needs.
    • Developing an understanding firm’s various services and demonstrating ability to recognize client needs to provide expanded services to existing clients.

    • TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
    • Maintaining expert tax knowledge by staying current on technical development and standards.
    • Anticipating and addressing questions on advanced technical tax matters from team members and upper-level client management.
    • Hands on upskilling of fellow tax team members in the technical, client service and leadership areas.

    • BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
    • Driving practice and firm growth by identifying opportunities, developing relationships, scoping prospective engagements, and developing proposals.
    • Driving new business opportunities through external and internal networks and prepare, deliver, and lead client presentations.
    • Building and maintaining marketplace involvement, including speaking engagements, thought leadership publishing, regular contacts with referral sources, membership organization involvement including leadership roles.
    • Coaching and developing team members for their growth goals.

    • TEAM DEVELOPMENT
    • Providing proactive, meaningful coaching and mentoring to the best people.
    • Recruiting and retaining key team members.
    • Demonstrating the willingness and ability to have difficult conversations with team members.
    • Providing effective career planning for the best and brightest.
    • Maintaining positive interpersonal relationship of engagement team.
    • Developing leaders across the firm.

    • Knowledge of firm’s resources including technology and utilization of these resources to maximize efficiency for self and team. 
    • Contribution to partner discussions and meetings and ability to express differing points of view.

What skills, experience and qualifications you’ll bring to us

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, JD or CPA, Master’s in Tax a plus.
    • Minimum of 12+ years of deep technical expertise in partnership, S Corporation and individual tax areas.
    • Continuous skillset improvement.
    • Ability to work in an environment of evolving priorities, and have strong project management skills.
    • Demonstrated leadership within a tax practice including ability to develop others.  
    • Willingness to be highly engaged with the team and to take on roles within the tax department that help individuals and the practice to improve.
    • Proven results in project management, leading teams, and developing personnel.
