The GWC Curriculum Team is searching for a passionate and curious Curriculum Developer to help us build curricula that inspires girls, female-identifying, and non-binary students to change the world. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and supporting the development of high-impact, project-based curricula that incites a real passion for computer science, prepares students for a career in technology, and can scale to meet the needs of thousands of students nationwide. This Curriculum Developer position is specifically focused on developing curriculum for our Clubs program, including working on custom curriculum projects with corporate partners (in the past partners have included IBM, AT&T, Endless and Apple) and supporting our new Mentoring Corps Program curriculum as needed (which will be used by both high school and college-aged students). 

You will report to the Senior Manager of Curriculum and will work closely with the rest of the Curriculum, Instruction, Program Implementation, Research, Product, and Programs teams.

As a member of the Curriculum Team, your portfolio will include:

    • Leading the design and development of custom activities, lesson plans, and curriculum content in partnership with corporate partners  to expand the breadth and depth of computer science learning for our GWC programs including Clubs
    • Developing visual, text, and video content as part of GWC curriculum and programs
    • Supporting the development of educational components for our new Mentoring Corps Program and College and Career pilots as needed
    • Collaborating with your manager to create project timelines and scope curriculum development projects
    • Participating in the team’s scrum by planning out your personal work in two-week intervals, participating in sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups 
    • Mentoring other team members in your areas of expertise
    • Participating in the Curriculum Team’s development and review cycle on internal projects and external partner projects by writing, reviewing team member’s work, providing feedback, reconciling feedback from others, and publishing final content
    • Collaborating with the Program Implementation and Research teams to collect feedback from users and use that data to drive curriculum updates and changes
    • Supporting Summer Programs Staff and Mentoring Corps Programs Staff Training in June, July and/or August by providing feedback on and reviewing training materials, attending the training(s) and facilitating training break-out sessions as needed
    • Virtually observing GWC programs in action and using your observations to inform your curriculum development practices by visiting Clubs, Summer Immersion Program, Self-Paced Program and/or College Loop classrooms
    • Supporting documentation and maintenance of curriculum content and work flows
    • Participating in local and national Computer Science Education events and sharing Girls Who Code’s insights and best practices with external stakeholders

Requirements:

    • Have 2+ years of applicable experience, which may include teaching young people, working with adult or university level students, writing technical curriculum, or working in engineering roles
    • Be a strong writer who can craft engaging, age-appropriate prose for students, teachers, and volunteers
    • Be proficient with at least one text-based  programming language (for example: HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Python, Swift (iOS), Java, Arduino-C, etc.)
    • Be able to learn new systems, tools, and technologies quickly in order to build curriculum
    • Be comfortable working and collaborating with in-person and remote team members
    • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Embrace challenges and adopt new responsibilities with creativity, initiative, and self-direction
    • Be able to navigate ambiguity and be willing to ask questions and learn new skills to move a project forward
    • Have strong organizational and project management skills. You can keep track of timelines, meet deadlines, clearly communicate with multiple stakeholders, and you are great at documentation
    • Be an intellectually curious and responsive team contributor, delivering and receiving feedback regularly, and eager to learn and stay up to date on computer science education
    • Demonstrate comfort with adjusting work to evolving priorities in a dynamic work environment
    • Believe that all girls can code, and be excited to work to close the gender gap in tech

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Hold a degree in a Science, Technology ,Engineering, Math, Computer Science or Education fields, or have commensurate or demonstrable experience in STEM
    • Experience developing video tutorials or video-based lessons
    • Knowledge in workforce development, university recruiting or apprenticeship programs a plus
    • Knowledge of or experience with the following content areas is a plus: cybersecurity, data science, and machine learning
    • Demonstrate an active interest in computer science education, including an understanding of current and future trends, methodologies, and technologies to engage students effectively
    • Come with first-hand experience working with students from any level, elementary through college-aged from diverse racial, economic, and geographic backgrounds
    • Well-versed in developing a curriculum that is culturally responsive and sustaining
    • Have familiarity with Understanding by Design, Universal Design for Learning, and/or Agile Development Methodologies
    • Are proficient in more than one programming language (for example: HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Python, Swift (iOS), Java (especially for Android), Arduino-C, etc)
    • Experience working with or developing curriculum for a wide variety of student backgrounds and needs including, English language learners (ELLs), students with special needs, and international students
