Girls Who Code is an international nonprofit working to close the gender gap in technology. Through our free programs, we are leading the movement to inspire, educate, and equip young women and non-binary individuals with the skills to pursue careers in technology fields. Within our programs pipeline, we serve individuals in 3rd-12th grades through our Summer Immersion Program, Self-Paced Program, and Clubs. Girls Who Code is searching for a passionate, detail-oriented Outreach Events Specialist to support live and on-demand webinar presentations and virtual events and programming that drive program awareness, expansion, and recruiting for these programs.
The Outreach Events Specialist will play a key role developing and presenting national webinars to help expand our Clubs and Summer Programs. The ideal candidate knows how to weave facts into engaging narratives and presentations that inspire people to act. They have experience crafting messaging and presentations for diverse stakeholders, and they understand how to successfully develop and facilitate virtual events for adults, students, and historically underrepresented groups in tech. The ideal candidate is an innovative, highly organized, and detail-oriented self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment. They bring experience working with students, families, educators, schools, and other nonprofits as well as a passion for connecting girls and non-binary students with free, high-quality computer science opportunities.
This is a part-time, regular position which will entail a year-round commitment up to 20 hours per week with a June 2023 start date.
Our preference is for candidates in the Pacific time zone, due to the nature of the work.
- Support end-to-end management of virtual programming, including ideation, project planning, content creation, publicity, execution, and follow-up.
- Work closely with the Outreach Communications & Events Manager to develop event resources and content for diverse stakeholders, including presentation decks, scripts, virtual event calendars, and event process documents.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to expand and diversify webinar content and virtual programming while ensuring accuracy and alignment with overall program messaging.
- Host national webinars and other virtual events to increase awareness about Clubs and Summer Programs and support outreach and recruiting goals.
- Manage event follow-up including post-event communications, incentive fulfillment, and on-demand access.
- Work closely with the Outreach Communications & Events Manager and the Technology Team to collect and analyze event data, including cleaning and uploading registration data to grow lead lists.
- Maintain and manage webinar content and assets, including maintaining and updating webinar pages with event descriptions, registration forms, and on-demand content.
- Build and manage relationships and provide logistical support for event speakers including Club members, alumni, and Facilitators.
- Collect and track testimonials, program stories, and program highlights to enhance virtual programming and expand event resources.
- Collaborate with the Outreach Communications & Events Manager and Outreach Communications Specialist to publicize events and on-demand content in support of driving program sign-ups.
- Work with the Marketing and Communications Team to coordinate event postings to social media and the weekly GWC newsletter.
- Identify industry and internal trends to shape best practices and inform virtual programming.
- Meet virtually with Outreach Communications & Events Manager and attend regularly scheduled team meetings or other GWC meetings virtually.
- Experience in end-to-end execution of large-scale virtual events incorporating engaging and on-brand content to achieve defined goals.
- Experience developing clear and compelling presentations and professional development content incorporating engaging visual aids and focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
- Strong understanding of visual design and presentation best practices.
- Experience presenting to large audiences of diverse stakeholders, including adults and students.
- Experience leveraging web, email, and social channels to drive virtual event sign-ups and follow-up.
- Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills with an orientation towards customer service that prioritizes timely, clear, thoughtful, and respectful communications to stakeholders from all backgrounds.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented project management skills with an ability to prioritize and balance workloads to meet tight deadlines and goals.
- Skilled in collecting and analyzing data to track outcomes against established goals and make recommendations.
- Follows industry trends and best practices with a desire to expand knowledge and incorporate learnings into work.
- Proactive and self-motivated; you understand how to get things done, and you follow-through with projects from start to finish.
- Independent worker who is comfortable collaborating in a remote, distributed team environment (your manager will be remote).
- Experienced and comfortable working with Slack (required), Google Suite (required), Zoom (required), Mailchimp (preferred), Salesforce (preferred), and YouTube (preferred).

$20 - $27 an hour
