Position Summary:
This newly created role presents a unique opportunity to work for an iconic San Franciscan institution as the preeminent leader for shaping all internal and external written materials, all while working in partnership with the CEO and senior leadership team. The Strategic Communications Director would be someone who can thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven work environment. While being responsible for producing, editing, and ensuring an overall layer of quality assurance for brand consistency, across all communication materials.

Core Responsibilities:

    • Drive content strategy and executive communications for the CEO, including routine internal and external communications, press releases, talking points, and speeches
    • Create strong relationships with staff to be attuned to their needs and feedback for the purpose of timely and relevant internal executive communications
    • Design and create a strategic internal communication plan
    • Quickly learn the CEO’s preferred tone and voice for the preparation of remarks, communications, and rapid response
    • Create and maintain internal collateral such as one pagers about programs that promote GLIDE to external audiences such as elected officials and funders
    • Editor in Chief- be responsible for quality control of all internal and external communications
    • Possess media strategy acumen, savviness, and connections to produce and execute creative plans for cultivating media relationships and opportunities for telling GLIDE’s story
    • Carry the ongoing development and growth of media relations across broadcast and print media
    • Lead writer, crafting executive voice and influence for moments affecting GLIDE’s strategy, agenda, and culture, including (as an example) OpEds for GLIDE and visits by powerful elected leaders and influencers
    • Be familiar with local, state, and federal public affairs and policies to be able to write content from GLIDE’s point of view.
    • In collaboration with the Sr. Director of Public Affairs and Communications, oversee development of innovative collateral, creative assets, digital and email marketing, and online/website presence.
    • Collaborate across teams and departments to develop relevant materials promoting GLIDE programs, fundraising efforts, thought leadership, advocacy, special events, and volunteerism.
    • Will perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

    • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
    • 8-10 years of writing and/or communications experience at a leadership level.
    • Writing samples written for a CEO available upon request.
    • Experience with nonprofit, social impact, human services, or similar issues-focused marketing and branding.
    • A subject matter expert navigating social justice issues; must be able to empathize with the lived experiences of the GLIDE community.
    • Experience developing, implementing, and measuring communication and engagement plans/strategies.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to persuasively convey the mission of the GLIDE Foundation to diverse groups including staff, donors, board members, and the public.
    • Must have advanced writing skills. Ability to compose clear, concise, and original materials. Editing and proofreading skills are essential.
    • Advanced communication skills. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of oral, written, visual, and audial communications to determine the most effective proposals and presentation materials.
    • The ability to consistently produce accurate and professional work-product while under tight deadlines.
    • Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices.
    • Excellent project management experience with ability to simultaneously manage numerous projects.
    • Proficient use of MS Office suite
    • Multilingual skills and/or multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
    • Some knowledge of HTML, CSS, WordPress, Google Analytics and Google AdWords desired.
    • Experience with Content Management Systems, Salesforce, Pardot and/or Click and Pledge a plus.
    • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite helpful
$130,000 - $150,000 a year
