Overview:
The Business Development Manager, North America will provide a competitive advantage to GMO in the marketing of its investment management capabilities to Institutional Prospects (E&F, Public, Family Office) in the N.A. institutional marketplace.  We empower our Business Development professionals to select where they can secure the best return on their activity, whilst collaborating closely with colleagues to optimize the team’s results.


The Business Development Manager will be responsible for building GMO’s business in a manner that is consistent with GMO’s investment capabilities, goals and culture through the following efforts:

    • Develop and implement a strategic business development plan to capitalize on opportunities in the Institutional marketplace
    • Proactively identify, create and progress new business opportunities
    • Cultivate relationships with key decision makers
    • Maintain a strong industry network through conference attendance and other avenues, as well as a solid understanding of the competitive landscape and how it is evolving
    • Contribute meaningfully to the growth and diversification of GMO’s revenue base
    • Work with Business Development Colleagues, Client Relationship Managers and Consultant Relations Teams to identify new business opportunities.
    • Communicate with various constituents throughout the organization (GMO) to provide market/industry information and feedback

Required skills:

    • 7+ years of direct responsibility for their own territory with proven sales results.
    • ·       A proven system of engagement rigour / sales discipline that has consistently translated into new business success in products spanning equities, fixed income and alternatives is essential.
      ·       Robust existing network of contacts and strong institutional experience, including applicable conference circuit (Public, E&F, SFOs)
      ·       Meaningful experience in selling fixed income capabilities is desired.
      ·       Proven ability to confidently communicate and be an advocate for GMO’s broad investment strategies across a wide range of sophisticated clients
      ·       Outstanding communication (written and oral), presentation and interpersonal skills.
    • In-depth understanding about financial markets and the ability to clearly discuss investment techniques, strategies and concepts including fixed income, equities and alternatives.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • CFA a plus.
    • Will be required to pass Series 63, 7 and 3.
