Job Description

We are seeking a Vice President of Data who will be responsible for leading our comprehensive Data Strategy. This includes managing our Data Integration, Data Product, and Content Analysis teams, and collaborating closely with other departmental functions across the business. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader who can balance strategic planning with hands-on problem-solving. As a key member of our leadership team, you must have extensive experience in both data science fundamentals and product development, with a proven track record of scaling data organizations and delivering enterprise-grade solutions.  You thrive in executive-level discussions and are passionate about building world-class data companies.

You will define the future of data science and data products at Govini, establishing innovative frameworks that push the boundaries of what's possible in the National Security domain. You will be responsible for managing and scaling high-performing teams of data scientists, data product managers, and data quality professionals while establishing data governance and data product development best practices across the organization. You will collaborate strategically with Product, Sales, Engineering, and Executive leadership to deliver high-quality, decision-grade data and methods to our National Security customers. You will engage directly with key customers and stakeholders to understand their strategic challenges and translate them into actionable data initiatives. 

This role is a full-time position located in our Pittsburgh, PA office.  
This role may require up to 25% travel.

Scope of Responsibilities

    • Oversee the management of three teams responsible for data product development, data integration and data quality at Govini
    • Design and own Govini’s Data Product Roadmap, including proprietary data creation, commercial partnerships, and performance monitoring
    • Ensure the continued development of data governance frameworks, lineage tracking, and quality standards across the organization
    • Implement scalable processes for model development, validation, and deployment
    • Recruit, hire, and retain top-tier talent across all data disciplines
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and technical excellence
    • Develop career progression frameworks and succession planning for key roles
    • Partner with external client teams to understand their business problems and opportunities for expansion of Govini’s proprietary data asset, the National Security Knowledge Graph
    • Become an expert in the National Security domain, and speak from the highest position of authority to internal and external customers as it pertains to leveraging Govini data
    • Collaborate with Engineering leadership to ensure the successful execution of Govini’s Data Roadmap
    • Represent Govini's data capabilities at industry conferences and customer strategic reviews
    • Establish metrics and KPIs to measure team performance and business impact

Qualifications

    • U.S. Citizenship is required

    • Required Skills:
    • Advanced degree (Masters/PhD) in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related technical field
    • Minimum of 10 years of progressive data science and analytics experience, including
    • 5+ years in leadership roles 
    • Minimum 5 years of people management experience, including managing managers and building organizations of 20+ people 
    • Proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale data products and solutions
    • Expert-level proficiency in SQL, Python/R, and modern data science frameworks
    • Deep experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and big data technologies
    • Strong product management experience and understanding of product development lifecycle
    • Exceptional communication and presentation skills for C-level audiences
    • Experience building and scaling data organizations in fast-growth environments
    • Strategic thinking combined with hands-on technical problem-solving abilities

    • Desired Skills:
    • Current possession of a U.S. security clearance, or the ability to obtain one with our sponsorship
    • Experience in National Security, Defense, or Government contracting sectors
    • Proven success in startup or high-growth technology environments
    • Experience with major NLP frameworks and emerging AI technologies
    • Advanced knowledge of data processing frameworks (HDFS, Spark, Delta Lake, etc) and AWS services
    • Track record of successful M&A integration or partnership development in data/analytics space
