Job Description
We are seeking a Vice President of AI who will be responsible for leading our comprehensive AI Strategy. This includes managing our AI/ML and Data Science teams, and collaborating closely with other departmental functions across the business. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader who can balance strategic planning with hands-on problem-solving. As a key member of our leadership team, you must have extensive experience in both data science fundamentals and product development, with a proven track record of scaling AI/DS organizations and delivering enterprise-grade solutions. You will define the future of data science and AI products at Govini, establishing innovative frameworks that push the boundaries of what's possible in the National Security domain. You will own the development and execution of Govini’s AI Roadmap. You will drive the development and implementation of cutting-edge data science methods for enriching Govini’s data, solving unique, challenging customer problems, and delivering scalable AI infrastructure. Further, you will ensure the continued development, improvement, and implementation of robust systems for ensuring quality, provenance, explainability, and lineage tracking throughout the AI Product.
You will be responsible for managing and scaling high-performing teams of data scientists and machine learning engineers while establishing responsible AI development best practices across the organization. You will build a team culture of experimentation and continuous learning while ensuring delivery and operational excellence.
You will collaborate strategically with Product, Sales, Engineering, and Executive leadership to deliver high-quality, decision-grade solutions and methods to our National Security customers. You will engage directly with key customers and stakeholders to understand their strategic challenges and translate them into actionable data science initiatives. You thrive in executive-level discussions and are passionate about building world-class data companies. You are a strategic technology leader who combines deep technical expertise with strong business acumen to drive customer value and organizational growth
This role is a full-time position located in our Pittsburgh, PA office.
This role may require up to 25% travel.
Scope of Responsibilities
- Oversee the management of teams responsible for AI product development and data science solutions at Govini
- Design and own Govini’s AI Product Roadmap, including proprietary data enrichment, predictive indicator development, Generative AI solutions, strategic partnerships, and performance monitoring
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to ensure successful execution of Govini’s AI Roadmap
- Establish AI governance frameworks, best practices, and quality standards across the organization
- Partner with external client teams to understand their business problems and opportunities for expansion of Govini’s proprietary AI solutions
- Become an expert in the National Security domain, and speak from the highest position of authority to internal and external customers as it pertains to leveraging Govini AI capabilities
- Recruit, hire, and retain top-tier talent across all data science disciplinesFoster a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and technical excellence
- Develop career progression frameworks and succession planning for key roles
- Represent Govini's AI capabilities at industry conferences and customer strategic reviews
- Establish metrics and KPIs to measure team performance and business impact
- Implement scalable processes for model development, validation, and deployment
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship is required
- Advanced degree (Masters/PhD) in Statistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related technical field
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive data science and AI experience, including
- 5+ years in leadership roles Minimum 5 years of people management experience, including managing managers and building organizations of 20+ people Proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale AI products and solutions
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL, Python/R, and modern data science frameworks
- Deep experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and big data technologies
- Deep experience in GenerativeAI frameworks including MCP
- Strong product management experience and understanding of product development lifecycle
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills for C-level audiences
- Experience building and scaling data organizations in fast-growth environments
- Strategic thinking combined with hands-on technical problem-solving abilities
- Current possession of a U.S. security clearance, or the ability to obtain one with our sponsorship
- Experience in National Security, Defense, or Government contracting sectors
- Proven success in startup or high-growth technology environments
- Experience with major NLP frameworks and emerging AI technologies
- Advanced knowledge of big data frameworks (HDFS, Spark, Kafka) and AWS services
- MBA or equivalent business leadership experience
- Track record of successful M&A integration or partnership development in data/analytics space
