Gowan Milling is looking for a Cost Accountant. In this job, the Cost Accountant will analyze production costs, pinpoint cost drivers for enhanced cost-effectiveness. Collaborate with production teams to optimize processes. Deliver precise cost reports, aiding financial decisions. Contribute to financial statement preparation. Identify and implement ongoing process and cost-saving opportunities with cross-functional departments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reviews all Standard Cost elements to ensure logical determination, including bill of materials, production routings, labor, and overhead.
- Coordinates with the supply chain team to ensure that standard costs are correctly reflected in bills of materials.
- Coordinates with each manufacturing team to ensure that all manufacturing operations are correctly reflected in product routes.
- Coordinates with each team supporting manufacturing operations to ensure that all overhead expenses are correctly reflected in the indirect cost.
- Coordinates with each manufacturing team to ensure that all direct labor costs are correctly reflected in the standard cost and procedures.
- Determines the Standard Cost for all manufactured products based on the obtained records.
- Assists in new product planning by forecasting costs (variable, assembly, indirect) and analyzing costs of various options.
- Assists in the annual cost roll, conducted at fiscal year-end, to ensure that inventory valuation is properly booked in the system.
- Assists in managing/performing cost segregation and fixed asset studies/evaluations.
- Coordinates physical inventory counts and cycle counts of inventory.
- Validates and monitors standard costs on a monthly basis, investigates discrepancies between standard and actual costs, and executes any adjustments if needed.
- Determines standard/actual cost variances on a monthly basis (purchase & manufacturing) and ensures that accumulated purchase price variances are applied to sales in the P&L.
- Monitors slow-moving inventory and evaluates it for impairment or obsolescence.
- Prepares accurate and timely Cost Accounting and Inventory reporting and expense analysis for managers and other end users.
- Performs account reconciliations to maintain the integrity of the general ledger in Cost & Inventory related accounts.
- Prepares financial information and schedules for external auditors during the annual financial audit.
- Assists with technical support and advice in Operational Departments.
- Assists with the preparation of the Budget Standard Cost.
- Maintains internal cost accounting controls (Policies & Procedures).
- Participates in any duty related to the Finance department required by the company.
- Coordinates cost-down efforts by establishing targets, analyzing the total cost of current products, and comparing them to the estimates or recommended target costs.
- Assists with the Audit review process.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Master’s degree (Accountancy or MBA) and/or CPA preferred
- Skills:
- Proven experience in accounting practices.
- Proven experience in Manufacturing Cost Accounting (Standard Cost preferred).
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP, IFRS).
- Experienced with Microsoft Office programs, especially Microsoft Excel.
- Familiar with electronic accounting systems, preferably JD Edwards Enterprise One.

Physical and Work Requirements:
- Work in office environment at a desk for extended periods using computer.
- Light filing and Occasional travel.
- Occasional light lift objects may be required.
