As a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) at Greenlight, you will serve as a technical leader within our Infrastructure & Operations team, ensuring the foundation, security, and reliability of our database systems. In this senior-level role, you'll provide expert guidance across Engineering disciplines to maintain high standards while driving innovation in our database infrastructure that supports our direct-to-consumer and SaaS products.
Your day-to-day:
- Architect, design, and implement advanced solutions and best practices for MySQL, DynamoDB and PostgreSQL infrastructure
- Serve as the technical advisor on NoSQL/SQL development to engineering and technical support teams
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable database infrastructure to support Greenlight's continued growth
- Develop sophisticated monitoring systems to proactively identify and resolve performance issues
- Partner with the SRE team to design and implement production changes and lead database-related incident resolution
- Orchestrate data integration and synchronization strategies across various systems
- Design and implement comprehensive automation frameworks and self-service tooling for engineering teams
- Establish and maintain database documentation standards including schemas, configurations, and procedures
- Lead observability initiatives across database infrastructure and implement advanced preventative measures
- Direct capacity planning and forecasting to ensure optimal resource allocation for current and future needs
- Lead on-call support processes and drive continuous improvement in database incident remediation
- Research and recommend emerging database technologies and best practices for implementation
What you’ll bring to the team:
- 6+ years of extensive experience as a Database Administrator with proven leadership in database architecture
- Deep expertise managing mission-critical, highly transactional distributed databases (MySQL preferred) in enterprise cloud environments
- Advanced knowledge of AWS RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, and Redis (AWS ElastiCache) administration
- Experience leading on-call support processes and mentoring team members
- Advanced SQL development skills with a track record of complex query optimization
- Expert-level troubleshooting abilities for database integrity issues, performance problems, blocking/deadlocking, replication, and connectivity challenges
- Superior analytical skills with demonstrated ability to solve complex database problems
- Extensive experience in performance tuning, query optimization, and implementing monitoring solutions
- Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform
- Strong technical leadership and communication skills to influence cross-functional teams

Our stance on salaries:
Greenlight provides a competitive compensation package with a market-based approach to pay and will vary depending on your location, experience and skill set. The total compensation package for this position will also include a discretionary performance bonus, equity rewards, medical benefits, 401K match, and more. Greenlight conducts continuous compensation evaluations across departments and geographies to ensure we are keeping our pay current and competitive.
The estimated base pay range for this position in (NY, CA, WA): $145,000 - 185,000
The estimated base pay range for this position in (CO): $145,000 - 175,000
