The Role
Gridmatic is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of our growing retail energy business. In this role, you will be responsible for managing billing, accruals, and vendor payments, ensuring all financial activity is accurately recorded in our ERP system and vendor payment platform. You will oversee the preparation and maintenance of financial records for at least two legal entities and collaborate closely with the Portfolio team to ensure timely and accurate handling of the profit and loss statement, including proper recording of revenue, expenses, taxes, and operating costs.

This role plays a key part in maintaining the integrity of our financial reporting. You’ll lead the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations for cash received and income recorded, support the month-end close process, and assist with regulatory reporting and tax filings. You will also serve as a point of contact across departments, helping to implement best practices and maintain consistent financial controls within the energy retail space.

What you might work on:

    • Record and maintain Gridmatic’s daily financial transactions in QBO Online
    • Record and manage monthly accruals for income and expenses
    • Prepare monthly financial statements in QBO
    • Support vendor payments and processing through Bill.com
    • Maintain account mapping between QBO and billing software
    • Assist Retail Operations with recording sales invoices and customer payments
    • Process and maintain accounts payable and receivable aging reports
    • Reconcile bank and broker accounts monthly
    • Assist with year-end 1099 filings and tax return preparations (sales tax, GRT, etc.)
    • Collaborate with external vendors and internal Finance & Accounting staff
    • Ensure utility invoices are processed and approved
    • Pay taxes and post customer payments accurately
    • Reconcile EDI transactions (e.g., 810 to 820 invoices)
    • Support regulatory reporting requirements
    • Contribute to ad-hoc projects and recommend best practices for the energy retail industry

You might be a good fit if you:

    • 5+ years of retail electricity/gas markets experience and knowledge of energy markets and customer billing and receipts is required
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
    • Experience in QBO and Bill.com
    • 5+ years of relevant bookkeeping experience
    • Basic understanding of the GAAP financial statements
    • Ability to pay attention to detail
    • Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities to meet deadlines, if necessary
    • Self-starter with excellent judgment, integrity, reliability and competency
    • Bachelors in Finance, accounting or similar; CPA is a plus but not required

Not required, but would be great if you also had:

    • Experience with VertexOne a plus
    • Knowledge of financial reporting standards; tax and industry regulations a plus
$85,000 - $130,000 a year
You will also receive Stock Options (ISOs) and be eligible for a Bonus

We value the ability to work and collaborate in-person in our early stage as a startup, so Gridmatic has a hybrid policy of "50% in-office. Most of the company works from the office 2 or 3 days a week.
