Grove Collaborative is seeking an experienced Formulation Chemist to join our fast paced and exciting Owned Brands team. Our Grove Co. home care brand sets a new standard for consumer packaged goods. The Formulation Chemist reports to our Senior R&D Manager and requires at least three days in our San Francisco office.   Agility and the ability to wear different organizational hats when needed are key to this role. Your Impact

    • You will support the innovation and execution of product development from concept through commercialization by formulating products that meet our ingredient, performance, safety, cost, and environmental standard guidelines
    • You will formulate to specific product attributes and complete qualification with the ability to develop or perform required testing for validation including stability, micro-challenge, performance testing, package compatibility, and other tests as required
    • You will work cross-functionally with Innovation, Quality, Regulatory, Creative, and Legal to execute all launches including assessing formula robustness, performance, and safety criteria as scheduled in the product roadmap
    • You can identify product improvements and cost saving initiatives within our current portfolio of products
    • You will support scale up by generating data that provides a holistic picture of potential formula manufacturing behavior
    • You will collaborate/mentor other fellow chemists and interns
    • You will support product launches through strong collaboration and communication with our suppliers, visits to outside manufacturing partners, and attending market and consumer insight events as requested
    • You will continually help review relevant competitive market products, identify product innovative points of differentiation, and generate supporting data
    • You will document and communicate with your project teams in a timely manner to support project timelines, with critical thinking and open discussions around risk awareness and mitigation

About You

    • A BS in Chemistry or related discipline or equivalent. Advanced degree is a plus
    • 5+ years formulation experience, preferable in Home Care or Personal Care products with a significant amount of bench experience
    • Familiar with basic statistical concept and data treatment knowledge
    • Able to work alongside fellow chemists, and great housekeeping habits with limited lab space
    • Strong computer skills, including the Microsoft Office Suite
    • Strong organizational, verbal, and written skills with intense attention to detail
    • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints
    • Self-motivated with an enhanced ability to work independently
