Position Summary
The Merchandise Manager is a thoughtful and strategic leader who plays a vital role in crafting and executing plans to meet sales and profit goals. They work hand-in-hand with a lively and diverse team in a bustling environment to develop innovative and customer-centric assortment strategies. As a collaborative team player, they bring strong leadership, analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and excellent interpersonal skills, all of which help create a positive and supportive team atmosphere.
Essential Functions
- Category Ownership – actively drive a key category of business, making up at least 20% of our total sales. Consistently influence how we can make our product stronger for our consumer and bring relevant trends to life
- Strategic Direction – develop and execute brand-right category strategies that meet or exceed financial targets, while delighting our current customers and attracting new customers.
- Pre-Season Management – manage merchandising activities for owned category from competitive analysis, trend analysis, consumer insights, to pre-line targeting
- Assortment Planning – develop clear briefs to Design with financial, AUC, IMU and MSRP targets at the department, pyramid and attribute level.
- In-Season Management – proficiently analyze and summarize business results to develop data-driven insights and actionable takeaways. Partner with marketing, site and planning teams to drive in-season results for owned category, including pricing and promotions.
- Analytical Savvy/Hindsighting – deliver weekly, monthly and seasonal hindsights that combine consumer analytics with product performance and clear takeaways.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration – communicate divisional strategies to cross-functional partners ensuring they have the information to bring the product to life (brand marketing, creative, site, performance marketing, customer associates. Be a sought-after leader on team projects, advising on complex matters and offer coaching where appropriate.
Qualifications
- 7+ yrs merchandising experience in a specialty retail environment, children’s apparel strongly preferred
- Extensive knowledge of trend, aesthetic positioning, and assortment planning ability
- Demonstrated success at developing profitable merchandise strategies
- Thorough understanding of merchandise financial planning and key metrics
- Highly analytical, data driven, able to develop and articulate insights to move business forward
- Ability to problem solve
- Strong listening skills, and excellent verbal and written communicator
- Strong interpersonal skills; and have demonstrated ability to communicate throughout an organization
- Effective working independently as well as in a team environment
- Able to travel, both domestically and internationally
- Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Business, or equivalent experience
Education & Qualifications:
$90,000 - $105,000 a year
Location: Portland, OR - Hybrid
Open to west coast remote, this will include additional travel to Portland.
