Head-Royce’s Athletic Program is committed to excellence, competition, and positive athletic experiences. The Middle School Athletic Director is responsible for leading and developing the MS Athletic program, leading our MS coaching staff, nurturing our students’ participation in athletics, communicating with parents and faculty, and representing Head-Royce in the wider community. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics and is a member of the Athletic Department Staff and the MS Faculty.
Expectations of a full-time staff member include attendance at staff and school-wide meetings when schedule allows, and service on various school committees. This is a 10-month, 1.0 FTE, exempt position. In addition to other tasks that may be assigned at the Director of Athletics discretion, responsible for the following day to day activities:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Creating Game schedules
- Creating Practice schedules
- Securing and confirming game Officials
- Hiring & Mentoring MS coaches
- Maintain uniform inventory and distribution
- Hosting and Preparation for games, tournaments, etc.
- Member of MS Dean’s Team
- Teach 2 sections of MS PE class
- Attend regular Athletic Department Meetings
- Attend regular League meetings (BAIAL, EBAL, NCJLA)
- Work with Admissions Office
- Coach at least 1 season of sport in the MS or US
- Attend MS games whenever possible
- Assist with US Athletics as needed, including facility set up and game management
Skills needed for this role
- Commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy
- Excellent communicator with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Strong organizational, planning, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in teaching Physical Education and in athletics coaching.
- Demonstrated knowledge of a child’s physical, social and emotional development at the Middle School Level
- Collaborative, flexible educator; able to work within the PE department, the Middle School and in our larger school community.
Qualifications Required for the role
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Athletics Administration, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years experience Coaching (including at the Middle and High School levels),
- 2-5 years of Physical Education teaching experience and working in Athletics.
- CPR and First Aid certification required
- Ability to provide proof of TB clearance
- Sensitivity to, and commitment to working with diverse racial, ethnic, gender, cultural, as well as disabled populations and promoting equity and inclusion for our constituents.
Additional Qualifications we hope to find, but are not required:
- Advanced degrees in the field of education and/or physical education,
- Sports Management or kinesiology
- Previous experience as an Athletic Administrator at the 6-12 level
- Experience teaching CPR, First Aid and Water Safety
$75,500 - $127,000 a year
On salary scale based on years of experience
