Responsibilities
Head-Royce School is seeking a part-time Mandarin teacher to join our World Language team in the fall of 25-26 School Year. We seek teachers who are not only excited by the content they teach, but who are also actively engaged in evolving their classroom pedagogy.
The Head-Royce School envisions a future where education unlocks the promise and purpose of every student to better the world. Our faculty create classrooms that encourage students to participate in experiential learning, take risks, view the world through multiple lenses, utilize innovative tools, and demonstrate proficiencies through a range of assessments that include real world problems and performances. Beyond the classroom, teachers are expected to take on Upper-School-wide duties and participate in the life of the community.
Head-Royce teachers serve as advisors and club sponsors and participate in the life of the community. We seek applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in culturally responsive teaching, a deep understanding of adolescents, and a genuine fondness for working with students at this specific age level.
Skills
- Experience teaching Mandarin at a variety of levels.
- Empathetic and clear communicator with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches including multiple assessment modalities.
- Strong writing, planning, and organizational skills.
- Possesses a growth mindset, a love of learning, and patience
Qualifications
- Fluent or Native Mandarin speaker
- 2-5 years minimum teaching experience.
- Understanding and support of Head-Royce’s core values with strong emphasis on equity and social justice.
- Ability to provide proof of Fingerprint and TB clearance.
Additional Qualifications (preferred, but not required)
- Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in Mandarin or Mandarin education.
- Experience with innovative approaches to teaching language, such as with Comprehensible Input or Integrated Performance Assessments.
- Familiarity with ACTFL Proficiency standards.
$60,000 - $100,000 a year
*Dependent on Years of Experience Teaching and Education Level
*Salary is pro-rated dependent on percentage of full time.
