Hello Neighbor is seeking a Community Doula who is fluent in English, Pashto, andDari to provide culturally informed and client-centered birth support to refugee and immigrant families. This part-time position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of pregnant clients by offering physical, emotional, and informational support throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the immediate postpartum period. The Community Doula will work on an as-needed basis, averaging 5–15 hours per week, based on the expected due dates of enrolled clients. 

Founded in 2017, Hello Neighbor works to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new home. We’ve expanded from our mentorship program to now include refugee resettlement services, family service programs, a national program supporting other refugee and immigrant nonprofits around the country. This is an in-house, limited term, part-time, non-exempt position at our Pittsburgh, PA office in Larimer through September 30, 2025 with the possibility of extension pending funding availability. We are currently on a hybrid work schedule of 9am-5pm Monday through Friday; in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and work-from-home on Mondays and Fridays. We require COVID-19 vaccination for full-time employees. The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States.

Reports To: Health & Stabilization Program Manager

Key Responsibilities

    • Provides culturally informed physical, emotional, and informational support to pregnant clients before, during, and immediately after childbirth.
    • Assists clients in creating and understanding their birth plans.
    • Attends births as needed to support clients and ensure a positive birthing experience.
    • Educates clients on postpartum care and newborn care practices.
    • Facilitates communication between clients and healthcare providers to promote culturally and linguistically appropriate care.
    • Maintains timely and accurate documentation of interactions with clients.
    • Upholds confidentiality guidelines and ensures sensitive information is handled appropriately.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Fluent in Pashto, Dari, and English (required).
    • Certification as a birth doula or related experience (preferred).
    • Experience working with refugee or immigrant families.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a client-centered, compassionate approach.
    • Understanding of cultural humility and trauma-informed care practices.
    • Flexibility to adjust work hours based on client needs and expected due dates.
    • Ability to work nights, weekends, and be on-call. 
    • Experience as a doula or in perinatal healthcare is preferred but not required.
    • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, characterized by compassionate, courteous, and professional interactions with diverse communities.
    • Cultural competencies, including knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors relevant to the populations served.
    • Thorough understanding of issues pertinent to refugees and immigrants.
    • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, staff, and partners.
    • Skilled at task management, including prioritization, meeting deadlines, and managing multiple responsibilities efficiently.
    • Digital literacy and the ability to learn new software systems.
    • Effective collaborator with a cooperative mindset.
    • Passion for working in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
    • Alignment with and support of Hello Neighbor’s core values.
    • Proficiency in digital tools like Google Drive, Notion, and case management systems.
    • Car, valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance are required.

    • Lived migration experience or fluency in a priority language is a plus.

Additional Details

    • This is a limited term, part-time, non-exempt contract ending 9/30/2025 in-house position at our Pittsburgh office in the Larimer neighborhood with a possibility of extension, pending funding determinations
    • Clearances required: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal History Clearance (PA Act 23 & Act 24); Mandatory Reporter and/or PSEA training may also be required depending on job requirements
    • We require COVID-19 vaccination for full-time employees
    • Valid driver’s license required, personal vehicle, and proof of insurance are required; MVR records will be required

    • $20 - $25 hourly, nonexempt, average of 5-15 hours weekly
