Hello Neighbor is seeking a Refugee Resettlement Case Aide who will join our Refugee Resettlement Department to help support and welcome Pittsburgh’s newest neighbors. The Refugee Resettlement Case Aide will provide clients with high quality pre and post arrival services, also ensuring they receive a thorough orientation of their new community and reach self-sufficiency goals by the time they complete the 90-day initial resettlement period once they arrive in the United States.

Founded in 2017, Hello Neighbor works to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new lives. We’ve expanded from our mentorship program to now include refugee resettlement services, family service programs, a national program supporting other refugee and immigrant nonprofits around the country. 

This is an in-house position at our Pittsburgh, PA office in Larimer. We are currently on a hybrid return-to-work and in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. We require current COVID-19 vaccination for all employees. Please note, this position does require a large amount of field or community work throughout the Greater Pittsburgh Region.

Reports To: Refugee Services Supervisor

Key Responsibilities

    • Assist the Case Managers And Refugee Services Supervisor with intakes and service planning.
    • Facilitate housing setup, also provide healthcare, social services, and interpretation for multiple refugee families, during their first 90 days in the United States, under the guidance and supervision of the Case Managers.
    • Provide cross-cultural information, orient refugee families to their new community, and ensure a smooth process of resettlement.
    • Provide timely, detailed case notes for all employment and case management services.
    • Transport clients to a variety of appointments that include, but are not limited to public assistance, social security, school enrollment, medical and English as a Second Language classes. 
    • Welcome new refugee families at the airport and transport them to either their temporary or permanent residence. 
    • Maintain client files and ensure supporting documents are appropriately curated–electronically and otherwise–in support of the Refugee Services Supervisor and Case Managers.
    • Provide community and bus orientation to ensure that new families can navigate Pittsburgh via public transportation. 
    • Support cultural orientation for newly arrived refugees on life in the United States. 
    • Help clients to reach their goals, address challenges and utilize available resources.
    • Coordinate interpretation and translation services for families as needed
    • Attend and participate in department and team meetings

Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent employment experience
    • Requires one year of related and/or applicable work experience and a demonstrated ability to work with refugee and immigrant communities effectively
    • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
    • Digital literacy and the ability to learn new software
    • Comfort navigating social services systems
    • Experience working with interpreters highly valued
    • Ability to work weekends and evenings on a rotating schedule
    • Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries
    • Must be 21 years old with a valid driver’s license and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate insurance coverage 
    • The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
