Hello Neighbor is seeking a Wellness Liaison who speaks English proficiently and whose native or first language is either Spanish, Swahili and French, Ukrainian, or Dari and Pashto.

The Wellness Liaison will provide culturally sensitive, practical, and emotional support to resettled refugees and other ORR-eligible persons in communities around Pittsburgh, focusing on client outreach, community integration, and advocacy for appropriate care standards.

In this role, the Wellness Liaison will connect with clients to conduct wellness checks, organize community activities, and provide critical resources such as interpretation services and transportation guidance. Acting as a cultural mediator, the Wellness Liaison helps clients build connections within their communities while ensuring that their unique needs are met, supported by a network of Hello Neighbor services and external providers. This hybrid, part-time position offers a meaningful opportunity to support immigrant and refugee communities with empathy, cultural awareness, and hands-on assistance. 

Founded in 2017, Hello Neighbor works to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new home. We’ve expanded from our mentorship program to now include refugee resettlement services, family service programs, a national program supporting other refugee and immigrant nonprofits around the country. 

This position is a temporary, part-time (6-month contract with possibility of extension), non-exempt position at our Pittsburgh, PA office in Larimer. This role has in-office responsibilities but will primarily be virtual and in the community. 

We require the COVID-19 vaccination for employees. The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States.

Reports To: Wellness Manager

Key Responsibilities

    • Explore Hello Neighbor services and the basics of PA Health Systems, and share this information at community gatherings and other events.
    • Reach out to potential clients in the community to enroll them in Hello Neighbor programs.
    • Organize activities to help clients feel a sense of belonging and integrate into the community.
    • Provide practical and non-clinical emotional support to clients while conducting wellness check-ins.
    • Ensure clients' needs are understood and coordinate proper or feasible support.
    • Utilize personal experiences to build collective knowledge, model behavior, and foster a sense of belonging among newer immigrant families.
    • Collaborate with service providers to address, mediate, and resolve issues as needed.
    • Advocate for culturally appropriate care standards and utilize interpretation and translation services for families as needed.
    • Maintain accurate and timely program documentation.
    • Participates in regular supervision meetings and relevant staff meetings
    • Adheres to Hello Neighbor’s confidentiality guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information
    • Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations

Preferred Qualifications

    • Bilingual or multilingual in priority language required (Dari & Pashto, Ukrainian, Swahili & French, Spanish, Arabic) 
    • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, characterized by compassionate, courteous, cordial, and professional interactions with diverse colleagues, program members, and the community.
    • Able to cultivate excellent relationships with clients, staff, and partners and collaborate effectively.
    • Possess cultural competencies, encompassing knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors relevant to the communities served.
    • Thorough understanding of issues pertinent to refugees and immigrants.
    • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
    • Exhibits adept task management, including priority setting, meeting deadlines, and efficient time scheduling for multiple responsibilities.
    • Digital literacy and the ability to learn new software.
    • Flexibility and ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.
    • Car, a valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance.
    • Alignment with and support of Hello Neighbor’s core values.

    • Living migration experience and fluency in other languages are a plus.

Additional Details

    • This is a temporary, part-time (6-month contract with possibility of extension), non-exempt that has responsibilities in-office but primarily virtual and/or in the community.
    • Clearances required: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal History Clearance (PA Act 23 & Act 24); Mandatory Reporter and/or PSEA training may also be required depending on job requirements.
    • We require COVID-19 vaccination and a booster for full-time employees.
    • Valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and proof of insurance are required; MVR records will be required.

    • Salary information; $22.85 per hour, commensurate with experience.
    • For temporary part-time employees, benefits are not available.
