The Finance and Accounting Leader is a foundational, leadership role and will establish the internal and external accounting functions at Helm. The position has two mandates: 

(1) build and oversee Helm’s internal accounting function;
(2) recruit and manage a world-class team to support Stripe’s outsourced finance and accounting processes.

This is an exceptional opportunity to build a global function from scratch within a fast-growing, strongly backed company.

What You'll Be Doing

Build and oversee Helm’s internal accounting function
 - Launch and scale Helm’s accounting function, including accounts payable, payroll, tax compliance, financial reporting, and internal controls 
 - Design and manage appropriate financial controls, policies, and procedures, and coordinate audits with the parent company (Stripe)
 - Manage Helm's monthly close process which includes preparing month-end journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and analysis
 - Provide support for forecasting and budget exercises

Recruit and manage a world-class team to support Stripe’s outsourced finance and accounting processes
 - Recruit, manage and develop a team of extraordinary professionals that support Stripe's outsourced finance and accounting processes
 - Create a culture of continuous improvement through appropriate operational metrics and reporting

How We Know You Can Do It

- 10+ years of relevant accounting experience in private industry and/or accounting advisory
- Experience managing high-performing finance support teams such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll 
- Executive level presentation skills with fluency in financial reporting, particularly U.S. GAAP
- You have implemented automation that drove productivity or controllership such as Procure to Pay, HRIS or ERP systems
- Experience building org structure that supports growth, ensures regulatory/company compliance, and maintains low-cost infrastructure
- Passion for people management, with experience building and managing teams that embody camaraderie, efficiency, and accuracy
- Proactive self-starter with the ability to solve problems and execute independently in a fast-paced environment
- ‘Roll-up-your-sleeves’ mentality, where no task is too small
- You are meticulous about the foundations, constantly ensuring that we are building for scale
