Overview of Role
Heretic Ventures is seeking its first Category Manager to join an early stage generative AI consumer business that Heretic Ventures is launching.

The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial, analytical generalist grounded in merchandising. S/he has had 5+ years of merchandising experience and a MBA. This individual will own revenue, consumer experience and net promoter score in their category, and will play a large role in the company’s success.

This is a unique opportunity to help reshape the consumer landscape and build a billion-dollar company from the ground up while deeply learning about AI and learning from a stable of powerful and experienced mentors and advisors. 

This is a hybrid role with the preference for 4 days per week in-person in our sunny Presidio, SF office.  There is significant international and domestic travel involved in this role.  The position is compensated with salary, benefits, and equity.

About Heretic 
Heretic Ventures is a San Francisco-based venture studio ideating and launching new businesses in the creator economy, including those that capitalize on AI/ML technology. Heretic is run by Managing Partner Mariam Naficy, who founded and built the pioneering internet companies Minted and Eve.com. Heretic is backed by household names in Silicon Valley (investors and entrepreneurs), who act as the studio’s advisors both in selecting and in advising companies.

Responsibilities include:

    • Architect and manage end-to-end category strategy, consumer value proposition and consumer experience
    • Manage category revenue
    • Own customer product satisfaction
    • Develop and manage community in category
    • Create and execute on data requirements for training AI models for category
    • QA of AI models for category
    • Define category hierarchies and information architecture

Qualifications

    • 5+ years of merchandising experience in a consumer product, retail, or e-commerce environment.
    • E-commerce experience highly preferred.
    • MBA required
    • Entrepreneurial and ownership mindset with bias for action.  Prepared to move with speed to outpace competitors, and to roll up their sleeves and be hands-on.
    • Unconventional thinker, willing to rethink traditional ways of doing things and reinvent everything they have seen in the past.
    • Strong analytical, negotiation, contracting, communication (verbal & written), influence and leadership skills.
    • Proficiency working with spreadsheets, data analytics, along with the ability to communicate results both verbally and in writing.  Able to build own models.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
