Full-time /
On-site
Hermeus is a venture capital-backed aerospace and defense technology company. The business is focused on building high-speed products that sustainably deliver asymmetric advantage to the Department of Defense and allied partners. Utilizing an iterative development approach to aircraft, Hermeus’ high-Mach and hypersonic aircraft aim to deliver capabilities at a pace not seen in the U.S. since the 1950s.
We’re looking for a Senior Structures Manufacturing Engineer to lead manufacturing strategy and execution for large structural assemblies on Quarterhorse. You’ll drive how we build — partnering closely with design, integration, and factory teams to ensure our structures are manufacturable, testable, and ready to scale.
This is a hands-on, leadership-forward role. You should be excited to spend time on the floor, guiding builds, solving real problems alongside technicians, and pushing hardware forward. We’re looking for someone who can take ownership from day one — developing + driving roadmaps, building robust processes, and executing with clarity and intent.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of manufacturing processes for metal and composite aerospace structures.
- Own and streamline workflows for match drilling, precision fastening, and large mechanical assemblies.
- Define build strategies and communicate them clearly across teams through CAD, markups, and documentation.
- Collaborate with design engineering to evaluate manufacturability and de-risk designs early.
- Develop and optimize sheet metal forming processes, including tooling design, forming steps, and quality criteria.
- Provide daily on-the-floor build support — spotting issues early and keeping hardware moving.
- Champion integration with factory operations to ensure material flow, logistics alignment, and resource planning.
- Develop capability in machining, bonded assemblies, fastener systems, and pre-cured composite structures.
- Run your own workstream — identifying priorities, making decisions based on risk and impact, and keeping execution aligned to the program.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in aerospace or advanced hardware manufacturing environments.
- Extensive hands-on experience with structural assembly: match drilling, fastening, tooling, and shop-level execution.
- A builder’s mindset with strong technical intuition and comfort owning full projects end-to-end.
- Experience creating work instructions, managing BOMs, and operating within ERP/PLM systems.
- Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, machined parts, and bonded assemblies.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or similar) for manufacturing-centric applications.
- Strong systems thinking — able to assess risks, spot bottlenecks, and help the team stay ahead of issues.
- Excitement for dynamic, collaborative environments where speed and quality go hand-in-hand.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with composites
- Experience with tooling development
- Experience standing up early-stage production systems.
$145,000 - $180,000 a year
