Hermeus is an aerospace and defense technology company founded to radically accelerate air travel by delivering hypersonic aircraft. The company aims to develop hypersonic aircraft quickly and cost-effectively by integrating hardware-rich, iterative development with modern computing and autonomy. This approach has been validated through design, build, and test of the company’s first combined turbojet-ramjet engine and is now being scaled through its first flight vehicle program, Quarterhorse. Hermeus is also developing Darkhorse — an uncrewed hypersonic aircraft designed to deliver unique asymmetric capabilities to the warfighter.

We are currently seeking an experienced Fluids & Mechanisms Test Engineer to be a part of our team. As a Test Engineer at Hermeus, you will play a pivotal role in developing, building, analyzing and operating test assets for the fluid systems and mechanisms of our hypersonic vehicles. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on groundbreaking technology in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

The Hermeus Test discipline owns the cradle to grave testing of the fastest unpiloted reusable air breathing aircraft on the planet. These are extraordinary vehicles and we’re seeking extraordinary Test Engineers who can drive, thrive, and survive in a Mach 5 environment!

    • Lead the design, development, manufacture, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of test assets (including test facilities and test rigs).
    • Develop and execute tests at the system and component levels to evaluate hardware performance and survivability during the mission.
    • Develop innovative processes to increase testing capability and rate, while always maintaining the highest degree of safety.
    • Develop and maintain test procedures, sequences, scripts, configuration files, and software.
    • Design test fixtures and supporting hardware for test rigs and test setups.
    • Operate and troubleshoot data acquisition and control systems, wiring, and instrumentation (DAQ systems are primarily National Instruments based).
    • Operate and troubleshoot a wire array of fluid and mechanical systems including pumps, motors, heat exchangers, high voltage components, test fixtures, tooling, standard fluid system components (valves, regulators, accumulators, tubing, fittings, etc).
    • Identify and characterize systemic pitfalls and potential hazards then work to resolve them through collaboration with a cross-functional team.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with test equipment.
    • Strong working knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and mechanical design.
    • Excellent problem solving skills.
    • Ability to think of creative, outside-the-box solutions.
