Hermeus is an aerospace and defense technology company founded to radically accelerate air travel by delivering hypersonic aircraft. This approach has been validated through design, build, and test of the company’s first combined turbojet-ramjet engine and is now being scaled through its first flight vehicle program, Quarterhorse. Hermeus is also developing Darkhorse — an uncrewed hypersonic aircraft designed to deliver unique asymmetric capabilities to the warfighter.
The Hermeus Security Team is seeking amazing candidates for an exciting opportunity to join the company as a Physical Security Specialist! This role responsible for managing the security of classified areas, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and overseeing security systems, operations, and personnel. The scope of this role includes coordinating the design and implementation of secure spaces, managing security systems, and ensuring facilities meet all accreditation requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Secure Area Management: Oversee the design and management of secure areas, such as SCIFs, SAPFs, and other classified spaces, ensuring compliance with government policies, ICD-705, and other regulations. Prepare accreditation documentation for new builds and liaise with government sponsors for inspections.
- Security Systems Operations: Manage, troubleshoot, and optimize security systems, including access control systems, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), CCTV, and alarms. Work with vendors for system maintenance and support, maintain access databases, and conduct troubleshooting.
- Guard Force Oversight: Supervise security personnel to ensure 24/7 coverage and rapid incident response.
- Risk Management: Identify, mitigate, and respond to security risks through the development of security plans and procedures. Investigate incidents and security violations, preparing reports and corrective actions.
- Policy Development & Compliance: Develop and implement security policies to protect classified information. Conduct audits to ensure compliance with NISPOM, ICDs, and other federal standards. Ensure that all security procedures are followed and maintained.
- Documentation & Reporting: Assist in the preparation of security reports, assessments, and accreditation packages. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for classified projects, including Fixed Facility and Tempest Worksheets.
- Collaboration & Vendor Coordination: Work closely with design teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure security requirements are met during construction and commissioning of secure spaces. Coordinate with the unclassified project management team for vendor coordination and standard execution.
- Emergency Planning & Incident Response: Develop emergency plans for SCIFs and manage facility access. Respond to security incidents with urgency and implement corrective actions.
Required Qualifications:
- MUST HAVE: Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
- 3+ years of physical security experience, including SCIF and classified space management
- Expertise in ICDs, NISPOM, and other security protocols
- Strong understanding of security systems, including access control, IDS, CCTV, and alarms
- Experience with security audits, risk management, and incident response
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to create and present security training materials
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing SCIF operations and handling accreditation packages
- Familiarity with access control systems (Hirsh, Bosch, Lenel) and databases (e.g., NIST, NISS, DISS)
- Knowledge of budgetary practices and project management

$90,000 - $120,000 a year
