Hired is looking for a Director of Engineering to drive technical strategy and execution as we further build products that connect job seekers with work they love and help employers make key hires for their teams. As a Director of Engineering, you will leverage your mastery of software engineering practices to drive the creation of next-gen features for the Hired Marketplace and our complementary products. 

Our stack is primarily a Ruby on Rails monolith with a React & Typescript frontend, powered by a Postgres database, all hosted on AWS. We use ElasticSearch for our search functionality and leverage advanced machine learning models to curate the best talent and improve the efficiency of our marketplace. Our development philosophy values testing, code quality, continuous integration and deployment, and agile processes such as sprint planning, iterative development, and retrospectives. Role: Director of Engineering, Product SolutionsWork with a highly motivated, fun, and productive team.Oversee a team consisting of 4+ engineering Pods, led by Engineering Managers (EMs), responsible for building out and supporting Hired Marketplace and related products, technologies, and servicesOversee and set technical direction and architecture for initiativesEnsure teams are effectively staffed to meet the demands of the product roadmapRecruit, hire and lead a diverse team of Engineers and EMs. Drive career development of all team members. Mentor direct reports.Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality software with a predictable cadenceDrive engineering culture, striving to be a leading culture in the industryContinually drive towards 100% reliability of services with minimal defects.As a core part of our compliance group, contribute to SOC2 and other initiatives while promoting compliant processes in the engineering organization.Work in a remote-first environment, consisting of a distributed team across the US, Latin America, and Europe.

Who you are:You’ve focused on Technical/Engineering Management as a Director (managing managers/leads) for 3 or more years, with 10+ years of industry experience.You come from a background in agile development processes, but also understand how to drive initiatives with firm deadlines and scope. You are a strategic thinker, able to take requirements from stakeholders and convert them into a strategic technical vision and drive the execution of that visionYou understand how to look at a project and break it down into digestible and actionable components.You’re not intimidated working with and being the point person for senior leaders from various teams and organizations, building strong relationships, and creating value for themYou’re a flexible thinker, with the ability to pivot when conditions changeYou have been in the trenches, building reliable code. And while you may not be coding regularly now, you are not too far removed to understand the challenges your engineers are facing daily.You know the difference between good and bad technical debt and develop strategies to drive down bad debtExperience building products, both as an IC and technical leader (SaaS services with a mix of B2B and B2C a plus)Can speak to current software design principles and concepts and drive clear coding guidelines for the team.
