MagicLab is seeking a Legal Counsel with a strong corporate background to handle a range of fast moving, tech-focused matters both in the UK and internationally. This position is a fixed term contract for maternity cover for 9-12 months ideally commencing at the start of December. Reporting to the Head of Legal, the applicant will enjoy an extremely broad role across MagicLab’s entire product portfolio.  This role would suit a corporate lawyer looking to branch out in-house in a more business centred role, and work within a small and dynamic team.

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB ROLE

    • Provide effective, reliable and user-friendly advice on legal issues and risks
    • Undertake a broad variety of corporate work, including M&A, group reorganisations, partnerships, equity schemes, intragroup agreements,  and attending board meetings
    • Advise, draft and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts (including marketing agreements, ad serving contracts, billing agreements, white label agreements, software licence agreements)
    • Assist in the international expansion of MagicLab by supporting the establishment of newly opened offices abroad and the integration of new entities and products
    • Assist with corporate compliance across the group, including providing company secretarial support
    • Ensure company policies and the group’s website T&Cs and privacy policy are kept up to date
    • Deliver legal training to other areas of the business
    • Manage external counsel as required
    • Become a trusted adviser to business leaders

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • 2:1 BA/BS/LLB degree or equivalent
    • Qualified solicitor in England & Wales
    • 4+ years PQE and good private practice training and experience within a corporate team
    • Knowledge and understanding of commercial contracts and experience of advising on data protection, IP and liability issues
    • Resilient and comfortable interacting with senior management, and ability to provide advice confidently and effectively
    • Superior communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability to adapt communication style to suit a particular situation
    • Ability to work autonomously and desire to take ownership of projects
    • Ability to deliver a high standard of work under time constraints
    • Strong drafting skills
    • Excellent analytical, organisational and leadership skills
    • Experience in a commercial setting (in-house /client secondment)
    • Keen interest in the tech industry
