What We’re Building
Honeycomb defined the concept of observability and is raising expectations of what developer tools can do! Honeycomb is the observability platform that enables engineering teams to find and solve problems they couldn't before. It enables engineers to answer novel questions about their ever-evolving cloud applications, so they can deploy confidently, resolve incidents faster and focus on high-value work that drives innovation. We’re working with well known companies like HelloFresh, Slack, LaunchDarkly, and Vanguard and more across a range of industries. This is an exciting time in our trajectory, we’ve closed Series D funding, scaled past the 150-person mark, and were named to Forbes’ America’s Best Startups of 2022!

In this Senior Product Designer role, you’ll be building for a new market, which means you'll be working across disciplines to understand the market, identify user goals, and design product experiences that achieve those goals. You'll be working with a dedicated product team to build new workflows and tools for front-end developers and joining a growing product design team. You will be key in helping us to empower engineers to launch investigations and better understand how their software behaves in a production environment.

Who We Are
We come for the impact, and stay for the culture! We’re a talented, opinionated, passionate, fiercely inclusive, and responsible group of bees. We have conviction and we strive to live our values every day. We want our people to do what they truly love amongst a team of highly talented (but humble) peers.

How We Work
We are a remote-first company, which means we believe it is not where you sit, but how you deliver that matters most. We invest in our people and care about how you orient to our culture and processes. At the same time we imbue a lot of trust, autonomy, and accountability from Day 1.

What you'll do

    • Lead the design for a greenfield product for Honeycomb.
    • Build deep empathy for frontend developers who use Real User Monitoring (RUM) to solve problems in their day-to-day work. Establish a thorough understanding of their goals, unmet needs, and develop a perspective on opportunities.
    • Drive an iterative design process through research, ideation, wire-framing, prototyping, and design. Craft learning cycles and an outcome-focused feedback loop in partnership with product and engineering counterparts.
    • As part of a leadership team with your product and engineering counterparts, consistently iterate and ship toward key milestones. You’ll work in quick, iterative cycles and collaborate to learn, surface risks, prioritize, and unblock work.
    • Help define the workflows, look-and-feel, and paths to value in the Honeycomb product. Create differentiating experiences that invite developers to interact with their data. Design paths that show off the unique power of Honeycomb to enable developer to understand their systems better, faster, and with greater precision and flexibility.
    • Immerse yourself in the customer experience; help tell their varied and diverse stories, internally and externally.
    • Elevate your work beyond the team by sharing your insights and learnings both internally and externally.

What you'll bring

    • Genuine curiosity about the work of frontend developers and their needs. A strong candidate for this role is interested in our users — what pains and please them — and is relentless in advocating best interests in the product.
    • Direct experience in design for data visualization, analytics, or developer tools. Exposure and experience with developer ecosystems. We believe domain familiarity will enable a designer to succeed in this role.
    • An understanding of how underlying data structures influence and shape what’s possible in the user experience.
    • Deep experience in UX workflow process and ideation. You conduct research, discovery, wire-framing, and prototyping to convey ideas. Showing your work to communicate a vision or validate an idea is second-nature.
    • A sense of ownership over your team’s work process, decision-making, and outcomes. You work with your peers to strive for clarity, identify and bust assumptions, surface and work through risks, and when needed — disagree and commit to move forward.
    • Comfort working directly with customers through product discovery and delivery. You know how to conduct interviews, validate work in progress, and capture and respond to feedback.
    • A balance of vision and pragmatism. You dream big when exploring opportunities for the future of the product, and consistently carve out small, but significant chunks of value to deliver in the near-term.
    • You have a bias towards action.
    • An all-hands-on-deck mindset when it comes to sharing the vision of the design team. You enjoy communicating about design and are able to talk about complex design ideas and processes in a way that’s accessible to diverse audiences. Every member of our team acts as an ambassador, mentor, and educator for our craft across Honeycomb.
