Hunger Free America strives to build a nonpartisan, grassroots movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end hunger in the US and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.  
 
Hunger Free America (HFA) is seeking a full-time Development Associate who will report to the Chief Development Officer.  The full-time role will conclude three months after the commencement date. 
 
This position must be filled by a qualified Dislocated Worker. Candidates must pass a brief Dislocated Worker screening to be eligible for the position. Candidate must qualify as a Dislocated Worker. A "dislocated worker" is someone who lost their job due to one of the following situations: 
- You were terminated or laid off from your job, are eligible for Unemployment Insurance benefits, and are identified by us as unlikely to return to your previous industry or occupation. 
- You lost your job as a result of a plant closing or substantial layoff. 
- You have been unemployed for a long time and are unlikely to get another job in the same or similar occupation. 
- You were self-employed and are unemployed due to general economic conditions or a natural disaster. 
- You may also be considered a dislocated worker if you have been away from the labor force for many years. For example: you were a full-time homemaker, and you must now return to the labor force because you have lost your source of income. 

Duties

    • Clerical and Administrative Work:
    • Provide administrative support to the development team, including scheduling meetings, preparing meeting materials, and managing correspondence.
    • Assist with the planning and execution of fundraising events, including event logistics, vendor coordination, and attendee communication.
    • Maintain organized and up-to-date digital and physical files, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and privacy regulations.
    • Answer and direct phone calls and emails related to fundraising inquiries.
    • Salesforce Entry and Reporting:
    • Accurately enter and update donor information, gifts, and pledges into Salesforce.
    • Generate and distribute regular reports on fundraising metrics, donor activity, and campaign progress.
    • Ensure data integrity and consistency in Salesforce by performing routine audits and updates.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of Salesforce enhancements and best practices.
    • Gift Processing and Acknowledgment:
    • Process incoming donations, including cash, checks, online gifts, and in-kind contributions.
    • Ensure timely and accurate acknowledgment of all gifts, preparing and sending thank-you letters, receipts, and other communications.
    • Coordinate with finance and accounting departments to reconcile donation records and ensure proper allocation of funds.
    • Maintain accurate records of donor transactions and interactions for reporting and audit purposes.
    • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Support the development team in researching and identifying new fundraising opportunities and potential donors.
    • Assist with the creation of fundraising materials, including brochures, newsletters, and online content.
    • Participate in team meetings and provide input on fundraising strategies and initiatives.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Development Manager or Chief Development Officer

    • Strong communication skills.
    • Experience with Salesforce.

Salary and Benefits

    • This is an entry-level position with a non-profit organization.
    • This position is temporary.
    • Full-time (35 hours per week) position is non-exempt with a rate of $22 per hour, ending three months after being hired for a full-time role.

Essential Physical Demands

    • Must be able to frequently remain in a stationary position.  
    • Occasionally moves about inside the office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, other offices, etc. 
    • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.  
    • Occasionally travels around New York City and possibly outside of NYC to attend meetings, conferences, and other organizational events.   
    • Frequently communicates with staff, donors, volunteers, and clients and must be able to exchange accurate information in these interactions.
