You Will:

    • Serve as the primary technical expert for all of Impossible Foods packaging including discovery, design, piloting, and commercial implementation of all new packaging systems
    • Lead packaging related new product development and commercialization projects
    • Work closely with Manufacturing plants for execution of trials, new equipment selection and commissioning, and process optimizations
    • Serve as the packaging representative for design and implementation of future manufacturing footprints and facilities. Optimize current packaging design, materials, and processes for factors such as cost, sustainability, customer usability, and ease of manufacture
    • Design, plan and execute experiments for bench top, pilot plant and manufacturing scale trials; gathering and analyzing data, documenting and reporting results, and make recommendations based on findings
    • Work with material and equipment vendors to solve technical problems and identify new packaging technologies
    • Partner with Creative Marketing and external Design Agencies to develop new packages with sound structure, function, and messaging relationships
    • Develop prototypes to be used for consumer testing, product explorations, and internal presentations
    • Develop, review and update packaging specifications as appropriate
    • This role has no direct reports but mentoring junior team members on both technical approaches and soft skills is expected
    • Some travel required

You Have:

    • 12+ years of experience in consumer package design and packaging equipment selection for consumer food products
    • Broad and deep knowledge of packaging materials and equipment including flexible films, rigid plastics, paper, and corrugated
    • Thorough understanding of packaging materials and their functional properties and interactions with food
    • Thorough understanding of compatibility of product and package, structural design, costs, and operational efficiencies
    • Experience identifying and owning relationships with third party consultants, external analytical labs, equipment vendors, and material suppliers
    • Experience working closely with manufacturing plant personnel at all levels
    • Project management experience
    • Ability to work cross functionally across the entire organization, representing packaging technology in all conversations
    • BS/MS degree in Packaging, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
    • Knowledge of DOE and statistics
    • Knowledge of software including 2D software (such as Illustrator), 3D software (CAD), packaging software (TOPS/CAPE)
