Engagement Leader

New York, NY

About Incandescent
Incandescent is a strategy consulting and venture development firm; we conduct research, advise leaders and develop our own ventures. As advisors, we serve CEOs of Fortune 500 companies across a range of industries (similar to a traditional management consulting firm), founders of early- and growth-stage ventures (often compensated in whole or in part with equity in our client’s venture), and visionary leaders in social sector organizations (with clients such as The Rockefeller Foundation and Acumen).
Founded in 2013, we’ve been building a small team, slowly and carefully. Each team member plays an integral part in developing Incandescent as a firm that discovers better ways to create, build and run organizations.

Essence of the Role
We are looking for an experienced individual to join our advisory team in an engagement leadership role. Team members at this level play a central part in the journeys we undertake with our clients, serving as a trusted thought partner and ensuring that the best of the firm’s thinking is brought to bear on questions ranging from strategy and execution to management systems and organizational design. This person is an adept client leader, equally capable of organizing and driving large teams as contributing individually across a portfolio of early-stage, social sector and corporate clients. He or she is an important ambassador for the firm, able to cultivate relationships that over time may feed into the development of new business or the advancement of our research.

We are looking for candidates who will be active citizens of the firm, contributing beyond areas of direct responsibility. This person leads by example and takes the time to teach in a way that embodies - and nurtures and develops - the attributes we look for in all our team members:
- Conceptual thinking: the capacity to see high-level patterns and principles and the ability to translate concepts into concrete decisions and action
- Empathy: the capacity to imagine how the world looks to others and to build bonds of trust even in difficult circumstances
- Discipline: consistent follow-through and the capacity to translate intentions and decisions into sustained actions and results
- Drive to learn: intense curiosity, a commitment to honest self-examination and open feedback, a willingness to take risks
- Intentional: thoughtful and deliberate about each aspect of one’s work; commitment to make each detail express the broader vision

The right candidate has 8-10+ years of relevant job experience – most likely in business, but perhaps in sectors where leadership and demonstrated success can rapidly translate into impact in a business setting.

Why the Role is Compelling
This role offers the chance to take part in growing an entrepreneurial venture. Incandescent team members are exposed to an unusually wide range of people and issues across both the business and social sectors. They are also involved in the internal infrastructure and operations of a new company and with the firm’s thinking and research. Our team members develop a broad set of professional skills, honing them to excellence in a demanding environment. We are building a diverse team in which each individual is exceptionally strong and everyone is committed to the rapid development of themselves and others.
