The Operations Manager leads the daily planning and monitoring of operations affecting production and production goals. This individual provides technical plant support and leadership as well as managing site safety.  This individual drives continuous improvement efforts to ensure operational excellence and collaborates well with other departments. The Operations Manager is a senior level position and is able to perform as acting Plant Manager when required. 

Key Responsibilities

    • Directly leads hourly operations/production team in all aspects of the plant operation including supervising, scheduling, training, disciplining and hiring personnel.
    • Responsible for coordination of product trials and development of new products and processes.
    • Manages reports of non-conforming products and develops corrective actions.
    • Responsible for meeting production and safety KPI's.
    • Plant operation scheduling and preplanning of scheduled shutdown time required for maintenance, repairs or projects.
    • Troubleshoots and resolves issues at the plant.
    • Investigates any incidents occurring in the plant pertaining to safety, operations or quality. Leads root cause analysis as required.
    • Coordinates plant operations/production with Planning & Logistics, Maintenance and Quality teams.
    • Supervises and leads Process Safety Engineer and responsible for site safety.
    • Leads safety and continuous improvement practices to drive positive change throughout the organization. This includes leading problem-solving activities both within the Manufacturing Team and across departmental teams.
    • Drives process improvement and compliance to Quality and current GMP practices and standards.
    • Collaborates regularly with Maintenance Department regarding all equipment repairs and upgrades. Supports preventive maintenance program to minimize unscheduled downtime within the department.
    • Collaborates with other Plant departments to ensure alignment.
    • Ensures that all Operational, EHS, GMP, Food Safety, HACCP and HR guidelines and procedures are communicated, understood and followed.
    • Participates on plant committees including negotiations and grievance meetings as necessary.
    • Interacts with Corporate Business team as needed for efficient operations.
    • Follows all environmental, health and safety protocols and demonstrates management’s commitment to safety.

Required Education and Experience

    • Degree in related field or equivalent experience in Engineering required; degree in Chemical or Mechanical engineering preferred. P. Eng, preferred
    • Minimum 10 years of experience in a plant manufacturing environment, preferably in the chemical industry, including at least 5 years of experience in a supervisory capacity

    • Strong computer skills including spreadsheets, data analysis, AI
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrated leadership and continuous improvement abilities
    • Demonstrated commitment to safety and the environment
    • Ability to perform as acting Plant Manager

Environmental and/or Physical Requirements

    • Work is performed in the field on the plant floor and in an office environment
    • Ability to climb stairs required
    • Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices including the proper wearing of clean protective clothing, following personal hygiene standards, and adherence to food/drink/tobacco restrictions
