Solutions Architect (Mechanical focus)

As a Solutions Architect at Instrumental, you’ll leverage your mechanical engineering and manufacturing expertise to understand our customers' unique challenges and success criteria, and put together a comprehensive Instrumental solution that meets their needs, usually on a tight timeline.
As a Solutions Architect, you’ll be part of Instrumental’s growing Go-to-Market team, helping to bring a new product to a hungry market of customers. Your customer journey will begin with accompanying account executives to customer meetings in order to understand their challenges and suggest how Instrumental could be used to meet their needs. After collecting requirements, you’ll design and implement the mechanical and electromechanical integrations required. Some of these integrations may be simple (basic fixturing) and some may be more complex (automation integrations on a conveyor line). You’ll then collaborate closely with Instrumental’s global customer operations team to source the components, deploy the solution, and train factory staff on use and maintenance. Given the demand, you’ll be working on tight timelines in environments where robustness and availability are paramount.
The powerful technology that you’ll help deliver will enable Instrumental customers to increase their production yields, reduce returns, and provide traceability that can enable the acceleration of product and process improvements. In this role, you’ll be solving problems for teams of engineers every day.
- Three or more years of experience as a sales engineer in a manufacturing or industrial capacity, specifically including the identification of customer needs and actual implementation of integrations *OR* experience as a mechanical or mechatronics / automation engineer across multiple products where at least one was high volume with an interest in interfacing directly with customers
- Technical integration abilities. These may take many forms, but the most basic requirement is the ability to design basic and complex mechanical fixtures in CAD. Bonus skills may include the ability to prototype and integrate off-the-shelf electromechanical components such as laser curtains, barcode scanners, and programmable logic controllers into highly reliable and highly available industrial systems. Software integration skills are a bonus, and not required.

- Interested in working on a variety of products and excited to take on challenges with short timelines that must be right the first time
- Ability and desire to travel, domestically and internationally, to implement your designs in the field
- Authorized to work in the USA and able to obtain a company-sponsored visa to travel in China (visa is not required to apply)
