Overview:

    • We are seeking an experienced and hands-on DevOps Lead to spearhead a strategic transformation initiative focused on modernising CI/CD practices across a diverse application estate. This role is central to driving adoption of a standardised GitLab-based pipeline, enabling teams to deliver business ideas to production within a single day.
    • You will work closely with engineering teams across London, Whippany (New York), Pune, and potentially Prague, helping them onboard to a high-quality, automated CI/CD pipeline. The initiative is already underway, with Barclays engineers supporting onboarding efforts. We are now augmenting this with DevOps SMEs to accelerate progress.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead CI/CD Transformation: Guide teams through the three-phase pipeline adoption journey – build, deployment, and production release.
    • Pipeline Evangelism: Promote trunk-based development, high test coverage, and quality gates across teams with varying levels of readiness.
    • Hands-On Enablement: Provide direct support to engineering teams, helping them automate manual tests and adopt modern DevOps practices.
    • Test Automation Strategy: Collaborate with QA and development teams to reduce reliance on manual testing through robust automation frameworks.
    • Application Modernisation: Identify opportunities to containerise legacy applications and upgrade outdated language versions.
    • Metrics & Maturity Assessment: Drive adoption of DORA metrics and perform application maturity assessments to prioritise onboarding efforts.
    • Technical Mentorship: Coach junior engineers and partner with senior SMEs to build a scalable DevOps capability.
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with stakeholders across geographies to build a repeatable playbook for CI/CD adoption.

Required Skills & Experience:

    • Proven experience leading DevOps transformations in large-scale enterprise environments.
    • Deep expertise in CI/CD lifecycle management, preferably with GitLab.
    • Strong background in test automation and reducing manual testing effort.
    • Hands-on experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud/on-prem hybrid deployments.
    • Familiarity with a broad tech stack including:
    • Languages: Java, .NET, Python, Scala, C++
    • Build Tools: Maven, Gradle, MS Build
    • DevOps Tools: GitLab, Ansible, Conda, Poetry
    • Monitoring & Logging: Elastic, ELK
    • Comfortable navigating Rust-based pipeline components and GitLab runners.
    • Experience deploying to AWS, internal platforms (SIK, BCP 2.0), bare metal, and virtual platforms (EBP).
    • Ability to assess application maturity and bootstrap DevOps capabilities.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Attributes:

    • Experience working in geographically distributed teams.
    • Exposure to AI-driven test automation or DevOps tooling.
    • Familiarity with enterprise governance and compliance in CI/CD.
    • Ability to scale initiatives across multiple teams and geographies.

Success Criteria:

    • High utilisation of the standardised pipeline across target applications.
    • Successful production releases using the new pipeline.
    • Reduction in manual testing effort through automation.
