About This Position
We are looking for a seasoned Mechanical Engineer to provide deep technical expertise and oversight for our upcoming natural gas power plant projects. This position will report to the Head of Datacenters and Fuels. This pivotal role will involve supporting the project team by reviewing, validating, and ensuring the technical integrity of designs and execution plans provided by our external EPC firms. The scope includes new natural gas pipelines and power plants based on reciprocating engines and Gas Turbines.

Overview of Department
The Datacenter and Fuels department is a fast growing team currently composed of a multidisciplinary group of engineers and project managers. The team is responsible for various projects from concept studies to completion. Projects include Data centers, Power plants and low carbon fuels.

Responsibilities and Duties

    • Lead technical activities for the design, engineering, and construction of power plants utilizing natural gas reciprocating machines and/or gas turbines.
    • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on rotating machinery, providing direction and technical leadership to both internal teams and external contractors.
    • Set and document the basis of design, develop the scope of work, and define key mechanical system requirements and performance criteria.
    • Guide and review technical deliverables from external contractors; provide clear engineering inputs and participate in review and coordination sessions.
    • Collaborate with other technical disciplines (electrical, civil, controls, etc.) to ensure project integration and completeness.
    • Support the procurement process by preparing mechanical equipment specifications, contributing to vendor selection and technical evaluations, and making vendor recommendations.
    • Review engineering documents such as P&IDs, design drawings, technical specifications, and analysis reports; participate actively in design and technical review meetings.
    • Good understanding of technical standards like ISO 19589,  ASME PTC 22, ASME PTC 17, API 616, API 618 etc.,
    • Effectively coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, ensuring adherence to schedule and quality standards.
    • Demonstrate deep technical understanding of machinery, particularly power generation equipment, and continuously monitor technological advancements relevant to NG power generation.
    • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical training as required

Qualifications and Skills

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas, or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe, is highly preferred.
    • 5 or more years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering roles within the power generation, oil & gas, or heavy industrial sectors.
    • Extensive technical expertise in the design, construction, and operation of natural gas power plants, with in-depth knowledge of both reciprocating engines and gas turbines (simple and combined cycle configurations).
    • Proven experience in reviewing and validating complex mechanical designs from EPC contractors for large-scale projects.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
    • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and provide strong technical leadership.

    • Salary: USD$150,000 - $160,000 or CAD$215,565 - $229,936 base salary with 30% annual target bonus

Physical and Sensory Requirements

    • Mostly sedentary work; using standard office equipment including: a computer, keyboard, and telephone. 
    • Position is part of a remote team, with regular electronic and video communication
    • Position requires some travel for company-wide meetups (4 weeks total through a calendar year), monthly visits to the project site with the Project Manager to meet with the contractor and ad hoc visits as needed.
