About the Role

The Tax Manager will be responsible for managing the US and international tax compliance processes including the accurate preparation and filing of the company’s, federal, state and international corporate and partnership tax returns. The Tax Manager will prepare the tax provision under ASC 740 for the Company’s financial statements, including any return-to-provision adjustments and effective tax rate computation to support the company’s annual audit process. This position will report directly to the Tax Director and work closely with accounting, project finance, and external tax consultants. 

Overview of Department

The Intersect Tax team is expanding and we are looking to bring in a person to manage the tax compliance and provision processes. The tax team serves two primary functions for the company: 1) managing the tax compliance and financial reporting and 2) working with project finance and legal on the structuring and analysis of transactions. This provides the tax team with visibility into many aspects of the Company. 

Responsibilities and Duties

    • Coordinate the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual corporate and partnership income tax returns and sales and property tax returns for Company's US and international operations
    • Assist in the ongoing analysis of US federal/state and international tax compliance, including ongoing analysis of the Inflation Reduction Act
    • Prepare quarterly tax provision for the Company’s financial statements including uncertain tax position and valuation allowance analysis and coordinate review by external service providers
    • Monitor changes in federal, state, and international tax laws and determine impact on the Company’s tax returns and financial statements
    • Assist in the preparation and review of quarterly HLBV models
    • Work with third party tax advisors on projects such as UNICAP analysis, and other projects, as needed
    • Monitor federal and state tax developments and implement them in the tax provision and tax returns
    • Work with development and project finance teams on tax assumptions included in project and financial models
    • Manage income and non-income tax audits
    • Assist with tax due diligence, tax structuring and tax modeling on various strategic corporate initiatives

Qualifications and Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, ideally with a CPA
    • 5 years of proven experience with a focus in corporate and partnership taxation
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with Management at all levels
    • Strong background in systems and process improvement
    • Knowledge of ASC 740
    • Knowledge of partnership rules under Subchapter K of the Internal Revenue Code
    • Experience in power and utility / renewable energy industry considered a plus
    • Self-starter - willing to work independently and proactively

Salary & Benefits

    • Salary: USD$130,000 - US$145,000  or CAD$176,072 - CAD$196,388 base salary with 20-30% annual target bonus
