About This Position

The CAISO Asset Optimization Manager will be responsible for optimizing Intersect Power’s CAISO BESS & PV assets at the Project level & overall Corporate level CAISO derivative positions on ICE. This role requires strategy development and execution of daily scheduling of PV & BESS, nodal optimization, BESS optimization using IA software, and basis risk management.  This role will also be responsible for tracking market patterns, conducting trend analysis for CAISO, and investor reporting. This position will report to the VP, Head of Origination & Trading and work closely with the Asset Operations & Development teams.   

Responsibilities and Duties

    • Determine daily nodal offers for solar & PV assets
    • Leverage internal curves, AI software, and market experience to optimize BESS assets through energy arbitrage & ancillaries 
    • Interface with external Energy Manager to submit schedules 
    • Track optimization performance and ensure adherence to limits
    • Execute short term trades on ICE for CAISO hubs to manage intermittency exposure to derivative positions 
    • Conduct research and backcast analysis of nodal spreads and basis
    • Submit CRR bids and track results 
    • Provide market reports & performance summaries 
    • Transfer RECs in WREGIS tracking system
    • Represent the team in CAISO working groups & policy forums 
    • Manage ad hoc projects and task delegation
    • Lead initiatives to build-out IPP platform

Qualifications and Skills

    • Candidate must have experience optimizing assets in CAISO
    • Eager to optimize BESS assets to meet & exceed baseline returns
    • Experience scheduling assets in CAISO 
    • Experience managing a derivative portfolio & trading on ICE (short term)
    • Strong analytical & MS Excel skills required
    • Experience calculating basis & transacting CRRs
    • Team player with ability to work on numerous projects and tasks at once
    • Comfortable leading initiatives
    •  5+ years of experience in energy front office roles
    •  Bachelor degree in engineering, business, or another quantitative discipline
    • Experience with Python a plus
    • Masters degree a plus

Salary and Benefits

    • Salary: $140,000 - $150,000 base salary with 45% - 50% annual target bonus
