About This Position
The Manager, Load Management & Optimization will be responsible for setting up and managing Intersect Power’s load following platform in ERCOT and SPP. In this role, the Manager, Load Management & Optimization, will be responsible for leading the negotiation and execution of contracts to onboard a REP (“Retail Energy Provider”) and other necessary entities to ensure Intersect can effectively meet business obligations to manage behind-the-meter load in ERCOT and SPP. After successful implementation of the load following platform, this employee will be responsible for managing the market interaction and exposure of the operating renewable generation and load assets. Specifically, this employee will be responsible for balancing energy supply and demand to minimize load charges, managing the relationship with the REP and scheduling entities, optimize the load business to maximize profitability, and validate the settlements of the load’s activities with the back office. This candidate must have robust knowledge of load regulations, extensive experience on the demand/load side of the SPP and ERCOT power markets, and a deep understanding of how to interface with REPs, Investor Owned Utilities, and Electric Co-ops.
Overview of Department
As a member of Intersect’s 20 person Origination and Trading team, this candidate will report to the Sr. Director, Trading and will be a key stakeholder in Intersect Power’s growth plans to set-up and manage behind-the-meter load in ERCOT & SPP. This candidate will be the subject matter expert for load management and will work closely with Project Development, Project Finance and the Business Development teams at Intersect Power.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Duties for this role are broken into two phases:
- PHASE I:
- REP/LSE Setup
- Coordinate with the Development team to execute commercial agreements for Intersect’s renewable projects to serve flexible and/or firm load behind the meter.
- Manage agreements specifically with Retail Electric Providers (REPs) and Load Serving Entities (LSEs) within ERCOT and SPP.
- Ensure proficiency in managing this process and executing contracts, with a strong understanding of settlement mechanics.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), collaborating with legal and internal teams to align agreement terms with Intersect’s business needs.
- QSE Setup
- Establish Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE) agreements to represent the generation side of the projects.
- PHASE II: After the setup phase and as the projects move into operations, the Manager, Load Management & Optimization will take on a more market based role, responsible for:
- Load Scheduling: Manage energy load schedules between the load and generation, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of power to meet market demand and minimize operational costs.
- Market and REP/LSE Coordination: Work closely with load customers, market operators, REPs, and LSEs to ensure accurate load management and compliance with market rules and regulations.
- Optimization: Align load management with market opportunities, energy sales strategies, and overall company goals.This strategy entails minimizing coincident peak and other charges common in load management.
- Risk Mitigation: Work closely with our risk team to Identify potential risks related to load imbalances or forecasting errors and implement strategies to minimize financial and operational impacts.
- Performance Reporting: Track, analyze, and report on load management performance, providing insights and recommendations to improve forecasting accuracy and operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills
- 7+ years of experience with load management in energy markets, including knowledge of SPP and ERCOT load side-market regulations.
- Buy side experience with a background in load following and management.
- Experience working at a REP, LSE or large load in ERCOT and/or SPP
- Strong understanding of load forecasting, energy scheduling, and power markets, preferably with a focus on renewable energy supply.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and market conditions to optimize load forecasting and management.
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, outside counsel, and regulatory bodies.
- Bachelor’s degree in energy management, economics, engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

- Salary: USD$140,000 - $150,000 base salary with 40-50% annual target bonus
