Intrepid College Prep is a network of free, open-enrollment, public charter schools committed to preparing scholars to excel in selective colleges, earn professional opportunities, and graduate as positive leaders.  Our Intrepid Team currently educates nearly 800 students across two schools – Opportunity Academy, serving students in grades 5-8, and Independence Academy, serving students in grades 9-12.

Lead Student Supports at Intrepid College Prep
At the core of Intrepid College Prep’s vision is the unwavering belief that all students, regardless of their socioeconomic status or educational background, deserve a high-quality, college preparatory education. With this core belief, we are targeting a student population that faces academic adversity based on factors such as income level or home language. Intrepid College Prep has approached development of the educational program very deliberately to meet students where they are instructionally and accelerate them to achieve mastery at and above grade level.        
 
The Dean of Student Supports works with teachers, the Principal and the Support Team (ESL and Exceptional Education teachers) to ensure our students have the academic supports necessary to excel.  

Dean of Student Supports Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assess overall progress of Special Education instruction at Intrepid College Prep and improve instruction, as needed.
    • Draft IEPs, monitor progress toward academic and behavior goals, issue parent communication about IEP meetings.
    • Ensure teachers are utilizing best practices and implementing effective and appropriate curricula.
    • Work with the leadership team to organize professional development workshops regarding delivery of special education instruction and services.
    • Accommodate student work packets to ensure students have the right amount of scaffolded to reach common learning objectives.
    • Work with our ESL teachers and Literacy Instructional Coaches to support tremendous academic growth for EL students and struggling adolescent readers.
    • Collaborate with the Support Team to ensure that instruction is always meeting the needs of all learners.
    • Support advisory duties for a group of students, including consistent family communication.
    • Reflect and grow as an educator by engaging with peers and leaders constantly through frequent observations and implementing feedback.
    • Coach, develop, and manager the Support Team teachers, including all ESL + Exceptional Education teachers.

Successful Dean of Student Supports candidates possess the following characteristics:

    • Dedication to educational success for students of color and low-income youth.
    • Proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom.
    • Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred, but not required.
    • Highest commitment to improving curriculum and instruction through collaboration, best practices, regular assessment and data analysis.
    • Effective organization, time management, and follow-up skills.
    • Ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrently.
    • Exceptional communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues, with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively.
    • Ability to learn quickly and to be effective in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
    • Exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and strategic planning skills.
    • Holds a B.A./B.S. degree with a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0.
    • Valid state Special Education Certification is required.
    • Speaks Spanish, Arabic or has experience working with bilingual students (preferred).
    • Belief in and alignment with Intrepid College Prep’s core beliefs and educational philosophy are non-negotiable.

We offer a generous compensation package, including health benefits.  All staff members are equipped with the tools needed to succeed, including a dedicated work space, laptop computer, email, high-speed internet access, and all necessary supplies. Compensation is highly competitive; teachers are eligible to participate in the MNPS Retirement System.
