The Cyber Security Engineer at ispace protects critical systems, satellite communications, and ground control infrastructure from sophisticated cyber threats targeting space operations. They secure mission-critical spacecraft telemetry, command and control systems, and ensure the integrity of satellite data transmissions while maintaining compliance with strict government security standards like NIST 800-53 and FISMA. The role involves safeguarding intellectual property related to advanced propulsion systems, orbital mechanics, and proprietary space technologies from state-sponsored attackers and industrial espionage. They will work closely with our engineers and mission control teams to implement security controls that protect both Earth-based operations and space-borne assets without compromising operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning, implementing, managing, monitoring, and upgrading security measures for the protection of the organization's data, systems, and networks.
- Working with all business units to determine possible risks and risk management processes.
- Business development planning and acquiring the correct technology.
- Analyzing IT security threats in real-time and mitigating these threats.
- Working with Security Frameworks NIST 800-171 and ISO27001
- Troubleshooting security and network problems.
- Responding to all system and/or network security breaches.
- Ensuring that the organization's data and infrastructure are protected by enabling the appropriate security controls.
- Participating in the change management process.
- Testing and identifying network and system vulnerabilities.
- Daily administrative tasks, reporting, and communication with the relevant departments in the organization.
Basic Qualifications
- A degree in computer science, IT, systems engineering, or related qualification. We will consider a combination of education and related experience.
- 2+ years experience with incident detection, incident response, and forensics.
- Experience with Firewalls (functionality and maintenance), Office 365 Security, Azure, AWS, and Endpoint Security.
- Proficiency in Python, C++, Java, Ruby, Node, Go, and/or Power Shell.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail with an analytical mind and outstanding problem-solving skills.
- Great awareness of cybersecurity trends and hacking techniques.
What Makes You Stand Out!
- Experience with designing systems that can detect, contain, and recover from incidents while maintaining mission operations would be highly valued.
- Expertise in securing systems that can't rely on real-time threat intelligence updates or cloud-based security services, requiring robust offline security architectures.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced design and development environment.
- Schedule may vary depending on program development needs; flexibility required.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
$126,000 - $189,000 a year
The salary posted is a targeted range for budget of position. Base compensation can be negotiated and will be commensurate with experience, skills, education, and training.
