At ispace U.S., we’re not just going to the Moon—we’re redefining how we get there. Our missions push the boundaries of human and robotic exploration, driven by our belief: “Expand our Planet. Expand our Future.” By providing cost-effective lunar transportation, we are pioneering a future where space is within reach for scientific discovery, commercial ventures, and sustainable exploration.
With locations in Japan, Luxembourg, and the United States, ispace is rapidly growing and leading the way in lunar exploration and development. Our U.S. branch is based in Englewood, Colorado, and focuses on high-capacity payload lunar landers designed to support future lunar missions. Our team is made up of innovators, problem-solvers, and visionaries committed to making space more accessible and fostering the next generation of space exploration.
Let’s go to the Moon together! Our team is growing, and we are actively seeking talented individuals who share our passion for space.
We’re looking for a Quality Engineer who is passionate about building things right the first time and making sure they stay that way. In this role, you’ll help ensure our lunar landers, satellites, and related systems meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and reliability by developing and enforcing systems that hold up to the rigorous demands of aerospace. You’ll be a key player in shaping and maintaining our Quality Management System, conducting inspections and audits, resolving non-conformances, and partnering with suppliers to ensure every part we use meets spec. You’ll collaborate closely with manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and leadership to drive continuous improvement across programs and processes. This role plays a crucial part in reducing risk, maintaining compliance, and supporting successful missions, one quality check at a time.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement quality assurance processes: Establish and maintain robust Quality Management Systems (QMS) and standards specific to aerospace and spacecraft manufacturing (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
- Inspections, testing, and audits: Conduct inspections, tests, and audits (internal, external, supplier) to verify compliance with quality standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FAA, AS9100).
- Non-conformance management: Identify, document, investigate, and resolve non-conforming products and processes using methodologies like 8D, 5-Why, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Supplier quality management: Evaluate and oversee suppliers to ensure the quality of outsourced components and materials used in aerospace systems.
- Continuous improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of aerospace manufacturing and quality assurance processes.
- Documentation and reporting: Create and manage quality documentation, including procedures, plans, reports, and certifications, ensuring traceability and accountability.
- Training and support: Provide training and guidance to operators, technicians, and engineers on quality standards, inspection methods, and safety protocols.
- Risk assessment: Participate in risk assessment activities, particularly in relation to non-conforming materials and process deviations, to minimize risks to product quality and program success.
Basic Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related fields) or a detailed work experience within a manufacturing quality role.
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) and aerospace industry standards (e.g., ISO, AS9100).
- Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, FMEA, SPC, Root Cause Analysis).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing processes (e.g., IPC, ECSS) and regulations (e.g., FAA, ITAR).
- Experience with Quality Inspection and testing methods (e.g., CMM, non-destructive testing).
- Knowledge of Materials Review Board (MRB) processes, non-conformance management, and corrective action systems.
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented and meticulous in documentation and analysis.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to identify and implement improvements.
- Adaptability and ability to manage shifting priorities and work in dynamic environments.
What Makes You Stand Out!
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent certifications.
- Experience with AS9100 / ISO9001 quality standards and audits.
- Familiarity with advanced quality planning tools (APQP, PPAP) and aerospace supplier requirements.
- Previous experience in production or testing of spacecraft systems or components.
- Experience in human spaceflight or Extravehicular Activity (EVA) programs.
