TITLE: Thermal Engineer
LOCATION: Luxembourg

ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Thermal Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our spacecraft systems can thrive in the harsh conditions of space. You will design, analyze, and verify thermal control solutions that keep critical hardware within safe operating limits during every mission phase. Based in Luxembourg, this role works closely with cross-disciplinary teams in mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering, directly contributing to ispace’s vision of enabling sustainable lunar exploration. Your expertise will help transform innovative rover designs into reliable spaceflight hardware that can survive and succeed on the Moon.

KEY RESPONSABILITIES

    • Develop and maintain thermal models of spacecraft systems using industry-standard tools (e.g., ESATAN, Thermal Desktop).
    • Design and validate thermal control systems, including radiators, heaters, MLI, and coatings, to ensure mission success.
    • Perform thermal analyses under varying orbital, surface and mission scenarios, and correlate results with test data.
    • Lead thermal verification activities, including component- and system-level thermal vacuum testing.
    • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams to integrate thermal requirements into spacecraft design.
    • Document thermal design, analysis results, and test outcomes in high-quality technical reports and specifications.
    • Identify and mitigate thermal risks throughout the design and test lifecycle.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement by feeding lessons learned into future missions.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
    • 3–5 years of experience in spacecraft thermal analysis and design of thermal control systems.
    • Proficiency with thermal analysis tools (e.g., ESATAN, Thermal Desktop) and familiarity with 0D/1D thermal network modeling. Thermal Desktop is preferred.
    • Hands-on experience with thermal testing in space-relevant environments (e.g., TVAC).
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Demonstrated adaptability and initiative in dynamic, fast-paced engineering environments.
