We are looking for a Principal Concept Artist to work on a brand new project at the Jam City Narrative Game division. Your role is to explore a plethora of art styles in the effort to establish the visual targets for the new game. Versatility is your strength and you are great at understanding the decisions behind all visual elements. You are comfortable with a blank canvas and excel at bringing artworks to a polish state. 

**In order to be considered, you MUST provide us with either a link to an online portfolio, website or a pdf showcasing recent artwork upon application.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Work closely with the Art Directors to establish visual targets for the new game.
    • Set the standard for visual quality.
    • Develop art guides for concept artists.
    • Work with 3D artists to further refine the style in 3D during pre-production.
    • Provide feedback to artists during production.
    • Provide comprehensive research and reference material to educate the design of a given asset or idea.
    • Design characters, environments and props.
    • Present the ideas to the rest of the Art team or other departments.
    • Visualize gameplay moments to communicate functionality and atmosphere.
    • Work alongside your broader art team to brainstorm ideas and pass work between other artists.
    • May be called upon to collaboratively solve design or product issues with individuals from those disciplines.

REQUIREMENTS

    • 5+ years of game experience as a concept artist.
    • Versatile art syle.
    • Can create rough and highly polished 2D artwork.
    • Good understanding of the 3D art pipeline.
    • Great comprehension of human and animal anatomy.
    • Excellent at posing characters to communicate actions and emotions.
    • Can easily bring artworks to a fully rendered look, with a great understanding of lighting and materials.
    • Complete mastery of Maya and Adobe Creative Suite.
    • Hungry for problem solving.
    • Art Degree or similar working experience.

NICE TO HAVE

    • Experience with Unity.
    • Ability to sketch using 3D software.
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation for this role.  The range listed is just one component of Jam City's total compensation package for employees, which may also include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.  Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, certifications, location, business needs, or market demands. This range is based on a full-time position. This range may be modified in the future. In addition, Jam City provides a variety of benefits to employees, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan, life, disability, and accident insurance.  Pay Range: $75,000 — $130,000 salary per year.
