We are looking for a Lead 3D Artist to work on a brand new game at the Jam City Narrative Game division. Your role is to contribute to the game team by providing the best in class 3D art and technical support. You will be a crucial part of a fast-moving team of artists, animators, and game designers. Collaboratively, you will help define, create and maintain the visual direction of this game. In production, you will be responsible for creating assets, mentor junior and senior artists in best practices, and assist your director in identifying development issues and proactively solving them.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Help define the art style of a new game.
    • Work with the Concept Art team to explore and develop visual styles for games in pre-production.
    • Create 3D art assets for all phases of the game production.
    • Guide and train 3D artists post launch to maintain a cohesive style and maintain quality.
    • Responsible for developing pipeline advantages and ensuring that assets are created in the most efficient way possible.
    • Provide constructive professional feedback both internally and with outsourcing partners.
    • Collaboratively identify and solve development issues both aesthetically and technically.
    • May support technical artists in creating rigs, scripts, shaders and other technical processes.
    • Collaborate with engineers to identify the technical limitations and the best practices for implementing assets into the game engine.
    • Communicate with designers to ensure proper implementation of art and animation per the games requirements.
    • Work with Art producers to define and schedule milestones while driving your team’s deliverables to adhere to schedule.
    • Will be responsible for managing 3D artist careers, setting expectations and delivering critical feedback when necessary.
    • Run and manage the 3D team's day to day meetings and production output.
    • Attend cross-discipline meetings as the 3D representative.
    • While this is a remote position, it’s desired to attend occasional in person critical meetings.

REQUIREMENTS

    • 10+ years of 3D game experience.
    • Must have worked on at least three 3D games from conception to completion, with at least one being on mobile.
    • Complete mastery of Maya and Adobe Creative Suite.
    • Great with Zbrush and Substance Painter.
    • Worked on a Unity game and understand the content implementation process the engine.
    • Excellent at lighting, with real time lighting experience and mastery in light baking processes.
    • Ability to work in a broad range of subjects and styles.
    • Firm grasp of both Environment and Character art process.
    • Good understanding of human and animal anatomy.
    • Perfect understanding of composition, color, value, and form as it relates to both traditional art and gameplay visuals.
    • Must understand 3D pipeline and process as it relates to game development and have experience partnering with other game team disciplines such as engineering and design.
    • Excellent problem-solving ability.
    • Art Degree or similar working experience.

NICE TO HAVE

    • Rigging and shader experience.
    • Strong 2D concept and illustration skills.
    • Scripting experience in Maya (Mel or Python).
    • Familiar with Substance 3D Designer.
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation for this role.  The range listed is just one component of Jam City's total compensation package for employees, which may also include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.  Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, certifications, location, business needs, or market demands. This range is based on a full-time position. This range may be modified in the future. In addition, Jam City provides a variety of benefits to employees, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan, life, disability, and accident insurance.  Pay Range: $86,000,000 — $150,000 salary per year.
