January AI:
Founded by veteran business executive, Noosheen Hashemi, and Director of Genomics and Personalized Medicine at Stanford University, Dr. Michael Snyder, January AI is the first “precision health” company that combines continuous glucose monitoring along with heart rate, sleep, activity and food tracking, to enable you to see the impact of your diet and exercise on your body in real-time.
We help you understand your personal metabolic health, i.e. how your body metabolizes food, and make simple changes to avoid serious health issues down the road. The need for this has never been greater: 1 in 3 adults in the US are now pre-diabetic, and 80% are not even aware of it. January’s app and continuous glucose monitor gives you immediate insights on your diet and blood sugar levels, and provides personalized recommendations on how to adjust your diet and activity to improve your overall metabolic wellbeing. We help you build better habits in just 30 days.
At January AI, we believe that every day is January 1st, that every day is a fresh start. We believe that health isn’t a place you reach, but the simple process of understanding your body and doing just a little better than yesterday.
January AI is backed by Marc Benioff (CEO and founder of Salesforce), Jerry Yang (founder of Yahoo), and Steve Chen (founder of YouTube), among others.

We’re seeking a hands-on Director of Engineering to lead our engineering efforts across both consumer and enterprise products. This person will manage and coach small teams of senior engineers while remaining actively involved in coding, architecture, and technical decision-making. They will own delivery, run sprints, and drive processes to ensure that teams meet commitments on time and at a high quality.
This role requires someone equally comfortable managing teams and rolling up their sleeves to write production code. They’ll be an important cross-functional partner, working closely with product, design, and business development. They’ll also participate in customer demos and help translate business needs into technical solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage one or two engineering teams of senior ICs.
- Own end-to-end delivery: driving sprint execution, process rigor, and meeting product and business commitments.
- Set and uphold a high bar for engineering excellence, ensuring quality, reliability, and scalability.
- Contribute hands-on as a technical leader: designing, coding, reviewing, and shipping production-grade software.
- Coach, mentor, and grow team members to maximize performance and career growth.
- Partner closely with product management, product design, and business development on planning, prioritization, and roadmaps.
- Join customer demos and support enterprise engagements with technical expertise.
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 5+ years of engineering management experience, including leading senior ICs.
- Proven track record in startup environments: navigating ambiguity, moving fast, and scaling teams.
- Strong technical background with TypeScript, Python, and Cloud Infrastructure (AWS preferred)
- Strong background in AI frameworks and techniques. You have built and productionized AI systems.
- Demonstrated ability to manage delivery: sprint execution, process design, and accountability for timelines.
- Experience working across functions—collaborating with Product, Design, and Business Development stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to represent engineering in internal planning and external customer conversations.
- Track record of coaching and developing senior engineers. History of developing, coaching, and retaining senior engineers; recognized as a multiplier for talent.
