Role Summary: We’re looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join our Developer Productivity & Platforms group. This role blends traffic engineering (API gateway, CDN, service-to-service routing) with core responsibilities, including automation, observability, reliability engineering, CI/CD workflows, and internal tooling that accelerates developer efficiency.
You’ll own critical systems responsible for managing API traffic — both north-south (external ingress) and east-west (internal service-to-service communication) — across a global, multi-cloud environment. You’ll architect resilient routing systems, edge integrations with CDNs, and observability hooks that ensure everything you build is secure, debuggable, and automated.
This is a hands-on role with high visibility and impact. You’ll work across platform, SRE, and developer experience teams to ensure the infrastructure is reliable, observable, and developer-friendly — from traffic routing to deployments to production operations.
One of your key responsibilities will also be to design and build a unified traffic abstraction layer — a foundational platform that maps backend services deployed across various compute environments to their respective configurations on CDNs (e.g., Akamai, Fastly). This framework will centralize control over routing, metadata inventory, configuration tracking, and automated failover across CDNs. This capability does not currently exist and will be built from the ground up.
About the team:
This is a rare opportunity to architect a foundational layer of the company’s traffic and routing infrastructure. You’ll be solving complex problems at scale — from evolving our API gateway stack to building a powerful traffic abstraction platform and enabling reliable, high-performance delivery across multiple clouds and CDNs.
Your work will directly impact how services are exposed, secured, and observed across the company, making this one of the most impactful engineering roles in the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and evolve the API Gateway platform to support both north-south (external ingress) and east-west (internal service communication) traffic, ensuring security, scalability, and reliability across a multi-cloud environment.
- Design and build a unified traffic abstraction layer connecting backend services to their respective CDN configurations (e.g., Akamai, Fastly, Cloudflare), enabling centralized control, metadata management, and automated multi-CDN failover.
- Implement and manage CI/CD workflows, integrating with GitOps, deployment pipelines, and validation frameworks to ensure safe, fast, and reliable service rollouts.
- Ensure ingress and traffic routing systems are cloud-agnostic and operate reliably across a multi-cloud environment, accounting for differences in network topology, latency, and resiliency.
- Use Terraform, Helm, and Kubernetes to automate the deployment and lifecycle management of infrastructure components.
- Develop tooling and services (in Python or Go) to improve visibility, control, and scalability of API traffic systems.
- Define and maintain observability standards — metrics, logs, tracing — across all components related to API ingress and internal traffic.
- Ensure all systems are highly observable, partnering with the observability team to implement metrics, logs, and tracing.
Skills and Attributes to Success:
- Strong programming skills in Python or Go — must be comfortable writing production-grade tools and services.
- Hands-on experience with API Gateways in production environment
- Fair understanding of CDN integrations (eg. Akamai, Fastly, Cloudflare) and best practices for API delivery
- Proficiency in Terraform, Kubernetes, and Helm for infrastructure-as-code and environment management.
- Solid grasp of networking fundamentals: TLS termination, routing, rate limiting, retries, circuit breaking, etc.
- Proven experience designing systems for observability, automation, and resiliency.
Preferred Education & Experience:
- B-Tech or M-Tech in Computer Science or a related technical discipline from a reputed university.
- 5+ years of experience in Infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE roles focused on production traffic, automation and API delivery.
