Job Summary - As an Engineering Manager, you will drive the architecture, development, and scaling of backend systems that power user acquisition across direct-to-consumer (D2C) and B2B/partner-led channels. You will own core systems like the Subscription State Machine, Offers Engine, and Plan Management Platform, enabling seamless onboarding, personalized acquisition offers, and dynamic subscription plans for millions of users across devices and regions. You’ll be responsible for setting technical direction, driving architectural decisions, and ensuring engineering excellence while closely collaborating with Product, Data, and Business teams.
About the team- Subscriptions and Payments Team powers the end-to-end direct monetization engine for India’s largest subscription platform, with over 250M+ subscriptions. We build scalable, multi-tenant systems for acquiring users via D2C and partner channels, reducing churn through intelligent renewal and retry mechanisms, and integrating deeply with global and local payment ecosystems like UPI Autopay and card mandates. Our platform drives seamless onboarding, high retention, and reliable payments at scale—enabling frictionless subscription experiences across geographies and devices.
Key responsibilities:
- Own the delivery, quality, and evolution of critical services that manage subscription acquisition flows across Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) channels (app, web, connected devices) and Partnership/B2B channels (telcos, OEMs, aggregators)
- Collaborate with Product and Data teams to define technical strategy and drive measurable business outcomes
- Guide technical architecture discussions, help unblock complex problems, and ensure system scalability, resilience, and cost-efficiency
- Build and nurture a high-performing team through mentorship, hiring, feedback, and career development
- Establish and manage team processes for planning, execution, and continuous improvement
- Represent the team in leadership forums, contributing to broader organizational direction and tech strategy
- Lead by example through code/design reviews and technical guidance when required
Skills & Attributes for success:
- Hands-on experience with backend systems using Java, Golang
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture
- Familiarity with high-scale databases (MySQL, Redis, DynamoDB) and streaming/message queues (Kafka, SQS)
- Production experience with cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS)
- Track record of delivering cross-functional projects and growing engineering talent
- Strong product mindset and understand how engineering drives user and revenue impact
- You’ve worked in high-scale environments and understand the nuances of latency, cost, and reliability in real-time systems
Preferred education & experience:
- Bachelors/Masters in Computer Science or a related field
- 9+ years of experience in software development, with 3+ years in people management
