Joyn Bio is a joint venture between Bayer and Ginkgo BioWorks dedicated to addressing unmet needs in agriculture by applying synthetic biology to engineer microbes.

Objective
Leverage synthetic biology to develop new microbial solutions for insect control

Responsibilities

    • Responsible for developing and testing new microbial strategies for insect control, integrating molecular insect physiology with cutting edge synthetic biology approaches
    • Provide knowledge and expertise on insect biology and generate and test hypotheses for insect control using engineered microbial strains
    • Leverage the Ginkgo Foundry for genetic engineering and high throughput screening; master custom software to become a superuser of the Ginkgo Foundry and foster a close partnership with Ginkgo Bioworks and Foundry team members to ensure effective execution of experiments
    • Collaborate with Joyn Bio’s Plant Science team and external partners for in vivo testing of engineered strains

Training/Experience

    • Ph.D. (or equivalent degree and experience) in entomology, molecular insect physiology, or a related field with 2+ years of post degree experience
    • Hands-on experience in developing GM traits or biological control solutions for agricultural insect pests is a plus
    • Demonstrated ability to drive technical projects to completion through scientific rigor and project planning and tracking
    • Experience with synthetic biology, development of high throughput assays, lab automation is a plus

Organizational

    • This position reports to the Program Director
    • This individual will be part of the Boston-based Microbial Engineering team
    • This individual will collaborate with Joyn Bio teams across two sites, Ginkgo Bioworks and Foundry team, and external partners
Location

This position will be based at our Boston, MA site and will require 5-10% travel
