Position Summary

    • The Digital Science and Technology department is seeking a Director of Information Technology. This strategic, yet hands-on role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s information technology needs. This includes the establishment and execution of a strategic technology roadmap to support the growth of the company and operations across 3 physical locations, day-to-day IT operations and information security.  


    • Create and maintain a comprehensive cross-site IT strategy and architecture to match information flows, business and scientific requirements, goals and needs.
    • Create and execute technology roadmap that supports business needs. 
    • Oversee vendor-managed services and strike a balance between outsourcing and internalizing functions. 
    • Manage relationships/agreements with all external partners/vendors. 
    • Work with senior-level stakeholders across the organization to identify business and technology needs and to optimize the use of information technology.
    • Ensure secure and efficient day-to-day IT operations, including but not limited to networking, server and desktop systems, cloud computing, software applications, printing, telecommunications, and internet access.
    • Perform continuous updates and proactive monitoring of all systems. 
    • Research and recommend new technologies for security, hardware and software.
    • Define and manage core IT policies, standards, and best practices.
    • Review and maintain the compliance to established standards and policies. 
    • Formulate and implement business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
    • Act as the information security officer. Define and execute a long-term cyber security strategy, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all IT & data assets.
    • Accelerate the efforts of Scientific Computing as they build out Joyn’s data platforms: ensuring IT infrastructure support for data platforms and coordinating with Scientific Computing for lab equipment integration with LIMS and data storage in cloud computing systems. 
    • Maintain effective communication between the IT and scientific and business teams.


    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or IT or equivalent degree or experience.
    • Minimum of 3 years supervising information technology professionals, preferably in industry.
    • Minimum of 7 years of experience working in the information technology profession.
    • Proven track record of leading and delivering complex large-scale IT projects.
    • Demonstrated ability to deliver large-scale IT projects on time and on budget. 
    • Proven track record of leading information security.
    • Experience working in R&D biotechnology environments preferred.
    • Strong team player who can proactively partner across teams to identify and solve organizational problems.

    • This position will be a full-time member of Joyn’s Digital Science & Technologies Dept and will report into the VP of Digital Science and Technologies.
    • Remote or Boston, USA.
    • 25% Travel required
