About the Role
As we grow the JumpCloud Engineering team, we are hiring a Software Engineering Manager to build and lead new teams in our Data Enablement group in the India region. 

Data Enablements Vision is for data to drive JumpCloud and our Customers. The current mission the team is on is to put in place foundational technology and process to uplevel the data capabilities of our Product and our Data Warehouse/Lakehouse. 

We are introducing an Event Based Architecture, developing and refining a data model that supports JumpCloud’s growth strategy and modernizing our Data Warehouse. A successful data engineer will exhibit an entrepreneurial spirit and enjoy tackling data engineering problems that most other people cannot solve, as well as shaping the future capabilities of JumpCloud’s data engineering, performance reporting and data governance.

This is a dual role position, you will be responsible for both managing a small team of data engineers and providing strong hands-on technical contributions at the same time. 

What you will be doing:

    • As part of the Data Enablement team, and as part of the engineering team as a whole here at JumpCloud,  you will be responsible for managing and guiding the engineering team reporting to you.
    • You will also play an active and critical role in the design and development of our critical data infrastructure and systems for multiple areas of the business, including Business Analysis, Product Development, Engineering, ML Operations, Finance, Sales and Executive Strategy.
    • You will be responsible for working with product engineering and other stakeholders  to make them successful with Data
    • You will be responsible for hiring, on-boarding and mentoring a growing and diverse team of high potential team members.
    • You will have influence over our engineering practices in addition to product strategy and execution. 
    • You will build out features, help drive architecture, define best practices and enable product quality.
    • As an active member of the engineering leadership team, you will partner with your peers and other teams to build, lead, and inspire a world class engineering organization.
    • You will provide technical leadership and oversight of team activities in your areas of expertise.
    • You will work with other senior level engineers, managers and architects with the goal to achieve top level proficiency in core data engineering skills and business functions for both yourself and your team.

What we are looking for:

    • 5+ years experience managing or leading data teams running in a public cloud, like AWS, GCP or Azure.
    • 8+ years hands-on experience as a data engineer in any industry and in any modern tech stack.
    • Strong software engineering principles and techniques.
    • Hands-on experience working with agile scrum teams
    • Ability to work and communicate effectively with other engineering managers, and both technical and non-technical business stakeholders
    • Ability to quickly integrate new technologies and industry best practices into your skill sets
    • Experience managing cross functional teams including Data, Software and Quality Engineers.
    • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-moving, team-oriented, collaborative environment
    • Track record of continuous improvement through innovation, delivery, process development, quality, etc.
    • Experience leading geographically diverse engineering teams in today’s remote first work environment.
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent. 

Bonus points if you have experience with

    • Python3 software development, following general software engineering principles
    • SQL for data transformation and analysis
    • Snowflake data warehouses (or equivalent)
    • Dremio data lakehouses
    • Apache Kafka (and it’s supporting tools)
    • Experience building observable data systems
    • Experience with basic data modeling and data architecture
    • Experience with data governance, including data contracts and schema management
    • Experience with data security standards including RBAC and sensitive data handling
