As a Payroll Operations Specialist, you will work across the organization to research and resolve a variety of payroll inquiries. You will be responsible for providing subject matter expertise on best practices as a specialist in Justworks Labs systems. You believe in the value of in-person collaboration, and look forward to spending time with your coworkers.

What You Will Work On:

    • Work independently to execute day-to-day operations for Justworks Labs payroll system
    • Ensure all customer payrolls and taxes are paid on time and accurately, including adjustments, 
    • Comfortable working to resolve client requests via tickets, email and/or phone
    • Field and manage income withholding orders/garnishments, and verifying other relevant customer payroll data
    • Proactively identify and resolve payroll discrepancies in Justworks Labs system
    • Field payroll, tax, and compliance questions/concerns from various teams, escalating to additional ops team members as indicated 
    • Assist with developing workflows and processing changes
    • Assist with communications designed for both customer and internal purposes as it relates to filing, payroll, penalty, payment, and other related topics.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned


    • 2-3 years of hands on payroll processing experience
    • Previous experience as a payroll specialist working for a payroll provider
    • Familiarity with basic business process management activities (process mapping, improvement, implementation, etc.)
    • Aptitude for quickly learning new products and subject matter
    • Meticulous and detail-oriented, pride yourself in finding mistakes or errors
    • Flexible and calm under pressure with an ability to thrive in a changing and complex environment
    • Work effectively within a team, yet have the ability to take initiative and work effectively on  your own
    • WIlling to work longer days/weeks during busy seasons, and until the team scales, act as on-call support in partnership with your manager.
    • Mastery of Excel a plus
    • Prior experience with Atlassian Software (Jira and Confluence) a plus
$75,000 - $92,000 a year
The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $75,000 to $92,000 per year.
