The key function of the Intermediate Technical Artist is to bring their expertise in bridging the gap between artists and engineers. They are expected to improve art production workflows, tools, pipelines, and asset optimizations in collaboration with different teams. They are also expected to develop a complete art pipeline for a single discipline; for example, creating a lighting pipeline start to finish, creating an outsourcing tool, etc.

    • Be a key team contributor to Create and Improve Art Production Workflows, Tools, Pipelines, and Asset Optimization/Integration:
    • Collaborate with artists to understand their needs and challenges, and identify areas for improvement in art production processes.
    • Work with project managers and engineers to define and implement efficient workflows, tools, and pipelines that seamlessly streamline the art production pipeline.
    • Optimize and integrate complex assets to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with the game engine.

    • Develop Pipelines and Tools for the Team:
    • Design and develop custom tools inside and outside of Unity to enable new features, enhance productivity, and improve efficiency for the art team.
    • Collaborate with engineers to integrate tools into the existing production pipeline and ensure seamless integration with other software and systems.
    • Continuously evaluate and enhance existing tools and pipelines based on user feedback and evolving project requirements.

    • Assist in Standardizing Render and Shading Techniques and Processes:
    • Provide technical guidance and support to artists to ensure the best utilization of rendering and shading capabilities.
    • Supervise budgets and check assets for over excesses.

    • Research, Prototype, and Implement Cutting-Edge Tools:
    • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and tools related to technical art.
    • Conduct research and experimentation to explore innovative approaches, and tools.
    • Prototype and validate new tools and techniques to assess their potential for improving art production processes and visual quality.

    • Find Creative Solutions to Realize Artistic Vision:
    • Work closely with artists to understand their artistic visions and identify technical constraints and limitations.
    • Collaborate with artists and engineers to find creative solutions and workarounds to overcome technical limitations and achieve desired artistic goals.
    • Provide technical guidance and advice to artists on optimizing their work within the constraints of the game engine and target platforms.

Qualifications

    • Undergraduate degree or college diploma (or equivalent) in a related field
    • 2+ years of development experience in Unity
    • Solid game industry experience, specifically in a technical artist role
    • Expert in troubleshooting artist technical problems
    • Proficiency in Maya and creating tools in these programs
    • Knowledge of art optimization techniques
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Experience in Unity Scripting (C#) and Python scripting
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks accordingly
$77,600 - $116,400 a year
The salary range for this position is between CAD$77,600 - $116,400. This salary range is specific to candidates located in British Columbia. The salary of the successful candidate will vary within this range based on their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
