The Kairos Program Manager will be responsible for developing the strategic digital skills and leadership growth of Kairos fellows. The Kairos Program Manager is an organizer who believes that leadership development is an important aspect of power building. The Program Manager will be excited about all the ways to foster the leadership of fellows and alumni. They will also focus their time and energy thinking about how to support fellows, partners, and host organizations in developing strong digital strategies that will lead to winning campaigns. The salary range for this full-time position is between $70,000 and $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience and your cost of living. A strong candidate for this position is an experienced organizer. They are also an adept digital strategist--someone who can recognize an organizing problem and support fellows and others in seeking digital solutions that will lead to power-building for communities of color. This person must be able to illustrate examples of how they have built power using the internet and must have healthy skepticism of the internet based on structural critiques.

Kairos is a small, nimble, and growing team. The Kairos team is made up of one full-time staff person and several part-time project managers. Everyone pitches in on each aspect of the work and we believe in collaborative input with clear decision makers. We are still growing and learning and are looking for someone who wants to join our team and help shape our work for years to come. The Program Manager will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with the Executive Director and consultants.

The ideal Program Manager will be committed to building relationships between and among the people of color who make up our network. They will be a patient listener with the ability to notice what is not being said. They will be a voracious reader of news--and be able to identify strategies for intervention on policies and issues that impact communities of color. They must be interested in technology and how technology has changed our lives and how we organize.

General duties:

    • Support fellows and host organizations in setting digital strategies and developing digital acumen that is aligned with Kairos values of racial and gender equity
    • Support fellows short and long term growth and learning including program management of training calendar and other administrative duties related to fellowship oversight
    • Lead our annual fellow recruitment process
    • They will recruit and manage the mentorship team
    • Provide significant input on program design and implementation
    • Provide strategic input on host organization vetting and selection
    • Lead trainings during in person retreats and trainings
    • Record tracking and amplification of fellows campaigns and strategies
    • Communication with our list and followers on social media

Required skills and experience

    • A minimum of two years digital campaigning experience, and a minimum of two years of grassroots organizing. These years may occur concurrently.
    • Demonstrates critical thinking about the role of technology in social movements
    • Experience recruiting, managing, and developing leaders who are rooted in Kairos values of rigor, discipline, disrupting anti-blackness, fostering equity, and resilient practice.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with and manage a large cohort, network, or team
    • Must be able to provide lateral management of supervisors, executive directors, and other leaders participating in the program
    • Strong project management skills and attention to detail
    • Impeccable interpersonal boundaries
    • Self-reflective with the ability to apply learning to your growth
    • Direct communicator and ability to manage conflict
    • The ability to work in a demanding and at times fast-paced environment with humility and grace and flexibility

Nice to have skills and experience

    • Direct experience with the Kairos network or program
    • Experience working with state-based organizing groups and leaders
    • Critical analysis of emerging political moments and opportunities
    • Ability to assess others’ strengths and challenges
    • Participation in a leadership development program like BOLD, Kairos, Rockwood etc.
This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. Kairos staff work roughly 40 hours a week, with the understanding that the schedule must flex to accommodate sprint moment like fellow and host recruitment, in person trainings, and breaking news moments that are crucial for our communities. The salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience and your cost of living. Kairos offers cost-of-living and merit raises at the beginning of every calendar year.

As we are a distributed team, your primary residence may be located anywhere in the United States; current staff are based in New York City. Occasional organization-sponsored travel for conferences, Kairos trainings, partner meetings, and face-to-face staff gatherings will be required.
